If you want a serious answer OP, I don't think 21 pilots are the worst thing ever, the chorus on this song is catchy enough, and fairly well done lyrically, the image of a mother singing you to sleep is a good one for evoking nostalgia, but the verses are such like, instagram-esque that it actively irritates me, like such surface level observations of what it means to be nostalgic and want to return to the simplicity of childhood, and the music doens't even really evoke that feeling as much as it could. You take something like American Football and you really feeel like you're back in your head as a teenager. The lyrics are more abstract and do more than just evoke that teenage feeling, they elaborate and make observations on them, so it's fufilling, and not just nostalgia obsession. The music isn't just "sad" or "nostalgic" it generally builds and morphs through the songs to get a full range of feeling. 21 Pilots is more detestable because it's like the Hopsin of alternative radio music. There fans think it's way more than it actually is, which is just unoffensive, semi good, semi bland music.
