just gonna leave this here for comedic purposes
>>63949223
Hey fantano
but yeah it's bad
>>63949223
>>63949231
it's not really that bad though is it. just a list of canonised classics for the most part.
blink-182 can fuck right off tho
>>63949223
COS 2/3 AIN'T BAD
>>63949223
It's an okay list. Their definition of punk is a little odd though. Blink 182 was interesting. The article starts by claiming punk starts in the mis seventies, then they drop a protopunk record from 1970 in the list.
It's actually a very good list.
>>63949436
>blink 182 was interesting
>>63949223
>Sex Pistols
>all those non-punk bands/albums
>no Inner City Unit
>no Blondie
>no Stranglers
>no Pogues
>no Undertones
What a load of shit
>>63949813
anyone who omits never mind the bollocks from a best punk albums list is a tryhard faggot
it probs doesn't deserve a top 5 placing but if it doesn't feature at all you're retarded
>>63949842
It is among the most boring albums I have ever heard. Three good tracks and the rest filler. Badly produced too.
>>63949223
>Sex Posers made the list
>The Damned didn't
>>63949876
>Badly produced too
L M A O
there are 2 standards of rock music production. pre-NMTB and post-NMTB
NMTB is _literally_ the first album ever released where the guitars actually had some bite. get rekt son
>>63949813
>Blondie
>Punk
>>63950081
>I only know Parallel Lines
>>63950047
This has to be b8
>>63950081
I think their point was if you're going to include some post punk and new wave that Blondie should get a mention
>>63949842
i dont like the sex pistols as its basically the lowest common denominator for punk. Bland, generic lyrics of """""" rebellion""""""" set to the same 3 chords except drawn out over an album
>>63950047
>>63950168
>set to the same 3 chords
it's fucking punk music you steaming retard
the people who say this are always the people who like the fucking ramones too
buttmad amerifats who can't handle the brits did it best again (like every other rock genre ever)
>>63950199
>hurr punk rock is supposed to be bad
>Calling people that dont like Blink 182 snobs
>Green Day above Bad fucking Brains
>Nirvana being there
>Damaged over My War
>Never Mind the Bollocks being there
>Ramones as #1
OH BOY I AM MAD
>>63950251
It's like it was based off of the critical reception section of Wikipedia articles
>>63950230
>hurr simplicity is bad
>>63950277
there's a difference between creative use of simplicity and just not being able to play more than 3 chords
I can't take anything seriously if it has a picture of Billie Joe Armstrong. That's like putting Kenny G in a list of the greatest jazz albums. Anyway what's more punk than an irrelevant corporate magazine run by old white men with no connection to any punk scene, creating a list telling you what albums are the best. This is the kind of thing punk was rebelling against.
I did my own list:
1. Siege - Drop Dead
>>63950199
>buttmad amerifats who can't handle the brits did it best again (like every other rock genre ever)
"I've rarely ever found a British band that I found listenable. In my opinion, the British should just stop trying to play rock-and-roll altogether."
-- Lou Reed
>>63950302
what kind of autistic faggot sits there listening to an album going "hmm, well i like this creative use of simplicity, BUT THEY BETTER BE ABLE TO PLAY THESE FUCKING INSTRUMENTS"
do you get in contact with the band's manager and arrange a meetup and get them to run scales for you? you faggot.
>>63950199
dude, I think Crass OS the best punk band, and theyre British, so don't make assumptions stupid
anyways, repetition is fine, but not if it's the same song for the whole damn record. There needs to be some variety, no matter how small it is
How is Marquee Moon punk?
>>63950339
>getting so mad you have to fabricate a quote
>implying Lou Reed is/would be the sole arbiter of Rock and Roll
>>63950346
Ever watch a video of them?
>>63950368
As others has pointed out, Rolling Stones is retarded
>>63950339
>anything that'll make someone mad
- lou
love the fucker, but it not like he ever said anything of relevance beyond his music. brits are better in everything except grunge
>Dead Kennedy's are dead last
>nirvana on the list
i'm sort of upset
>>63950321
yea, the true spirit of punk was about analyzing the artistic merit of various punk albums based on some indie tastemaker's arbitrary seal of approval on a russian child trafficking message board
owait
Nice to see The Jam on there, they don't get enough praise on this board
>>63949223
>anything after 1986
At least one Misfits album made it on there. Too bad it was the wro-
>Fugazi
>Joy Division
>Sonic Youth
>Mission of Burma
>New York Dolls
>Hüsker Dü
>Patti Smith
>Nirvana
WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK
>only modern punk on the list is white lung
>>63950437
I agree, they don't have much appeal outside of Britain though. I'm American and I don't even know anybody who knows who they are besides me.
They never list the lesser known stuff because Rolling Stone thinks that it's not worth listening to
>>63950081
that's a cute doggo.
>>63949223
>rollings stones
oh wasnt this the fucking magazine that had kim kardashian on the cover. quality source im not giving them clicks
>>63950321
OLD
WHITE
MEN
>>63950154
Yeah... their choices for post punk and indie rock stuff are weird. Why no Melvins then?
yeeeeeea sleater-kinney
1. American Idiot
2. Punk in Drublic
3. Suffer
4. Damaged
5. Enema of the state
6. Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
7. Chuck
8. Sex Pistols
9. Out come the wolves
10. Smash
There it has classics and then some "modern" punk that is more relavant and honestly better than listening to people whine about the Vietnam war
>>63951106
>the Vietnam War
lolwut
I like a lot of the albums on there
have a nice day
>>63951106
smash is actually good tho u memer
>>63951200
thanks anon :)
i like a lot of them too
>>63950730
If it were run by young black women it would be punk af you know what I mean senpai.
>>63951218
>if it were run by people that don't listen to punk it would be punk as fuck
Given how loose their definition of punk seems to be, they really should've picked Let It Be over Sorry Ma
>>63950168
You literally just described punk
>>63951106
Simply ebin post
>>63951273
literally?
>no poison idea
>no discharge
>not static age
>not my war
>dookie over banned in dc
>blink 182
>nirvana
ok
>>63951409
Static Age makes Walk Among Us sound like dogshit. Love the Misfits but WAU has the worst production I have ever heard.
No amebix no care
>no Death Grips
>>63949223
It could be a good list, except for the fact that many of those albums are neither proper punk nor hardcore.
>>63949223
Top 10 is pretty good minus the Sex Pistols, the pop-punk can fuck itself though
>>63950047
(not true, by the way)
>>63949223
>Crass and Blink-182 are on the same list
Top kek
>>63950047
>NMTB is _literally_ the first album ever released where the guitars actually had some bite.
You can't be fucking serious. I like NMTB but there are countless pre-NMTB albums that have guitars that have lots of bite.
>>63952963
The original mix of Raw Power was notorious for its weedy, thin, feeble sound. The album didn't sound like it was supposed to sound until Pop remixed it in the 90s.
There's a reason why the Stooges' live bootlegs were more popular than their actual studio LPs for decades.
>even judging punk bands based off albums
Some of the best punk recordings I own are shit quality bootlegs. Stooges' live at the Electric Circus is a great example. Stooges never came close to sounding that good on an album. They never even made it into the studio with that line-up.
Though I'd argue punk bands should be judged by their live shows if anything.
>>63953014
You got me there but Fun House is an album that has always had tons and tons of bite.
>>63953014
Even if you forget Raw Power there's still Kick Out the Jams, White Light/White Heat, Fun House and more.
>>63950630
What's wrong with Fugazi and Husker Dü
>>63950630
Are you saying those bands are bad?
Lists like these are why I stopped reading magazines in general. It's all just trash and ads.
>>63953311
>>63953442
they're most definitely not punk.
why not throw in the Cure and the Talking Heads while you're at it if you're going to use such a retarded, wide definition of what punk is.
The entire point of Fugazi's fucking existence especially was to give Ian MacKaye and Guy Pidgeotto a vehicle to move away from punk and do other things.
How the fuck is Marquee Moon punk?
>>63953495
>Guy Pidgeotto
oh fuck what have I done
Weird list. Fresh Fruit at the bottom is the biggest offender imo.
any best punk album list without GISM is a meme list
>bikini kill
>above minor threat
W E W
desu the most punk band in history was Crass cause they were first ones punk enough to declare punk dead.
>>63949223
>nevermind
>nevermind
>nevermind
>giving rolling stone traffic

>all left-wing punk bands
>>63953845
>top 10 consists obligatory "classics"
>>63953845
>includes post-punk, grunge and other non-punk genres
I hate this rag
>>63953845
>unknown pleasures
>closer not present
Fuck this I quit
>people seriously refuting that nirvana was a punk rock band
grunge is just a scene. nirvana made punk rock music. the same way that AIC could be included in a metal list.
>>63953845
Nice job throwing in random obscure albums. Never heard of these bands:
>X-Ray Spex
>White Lung
>Gang of Four
>Crass
>>63953939
>>63953845
Half of these aren't even punk bands
>>63953959
>>63953959
None of those are obscure in the slightest.
>a bunch of fucking retards arguing over what is, and is not punk
you're exactly what punk wasn't meant for.
sorely missing this
>>63950251
>Damaged over My War
This is very upsetting
>>63950368
They were part of the NYC punk scene, and a huge influence on punk music in general.
>>63950368
>>63953514
Actually back in the 70s stuff like Television and Patti Smith were also called punk.
For a while the terms 'punk' and 'new wave' have been almost intechangeable, but now we know better.
>>63953939
>nirvana made punk rock music.
no they didn't.
Scaruffi's list is better
>>63954438
why are some bold?
also,
>X: LA
not what it's called
>>63954383
yes they fucking did you special spakker
go and wipe the unenlightened drool of your ignorant millenial face on your mum's tits
>>63953845
>DK at the bottom
absolute madmen
>>63954531
>Operation Ivy #101
what a cunt
>>63954438
>>63954476
>>63954531
not bad, definitely better than Rolling Stone's list
>>63954438
>>63954476
>>63954531
a substantial amount of those albums are too close to industrial or noise than to punk really.
>>63953845
>Pere Ubu actually on the list
>it's a compilation
Why?
>though sex pistols would be 1
>ramones instead
>rest of list isn't that bad
>couple actual turds like blink-182
overall not that mad
>>63953880
>not even so much as an anarcho punk band
>no Sum 41
>all that post-punk and no-wave that shouldn't be on there
>NIRVANA
at least they didn't put London Calling at the #1 spot like everyone else in history does.
>>63949813
yeah the pogues are missing
>>63950437
true
>>63951234
>what is afropunk
But anyway you're responding to sarcasm, not even bait
that list is really decent, especially considering the audience it's intended for
the ranking doesn't really make any sense but the selections are mostly good though I would've included Suicide and Blood Visions and a couple crust releases... Amebix or Discharge
the best thing about the list is it only includes the debut for the Clash pick instead of London Calling, which automatically makes it better than most punk lists you'd see here
the worst thing is Damned Damned Damned is missing, huge oversight
