Well if you just got last.fm it won't have any record of stuff that you've played. What music player do you use? You need the 'scrobbler' which essentially records what you play and uploads the data to the site.

There should be an option within spotify to link it with your last.fm. Pretty easy. Look into preferences or something, maybe google it. I don't use spotify so I can't point you in the exact direction, but I know the feature exists.
