Soundtracks for The Blind

Its been said a few times
>>
>>63918356
What exactly is wrong with Mulholland Drive? It actually has a cohesive story going on and a reason it's so scrambled.

literal retards
>>
>>63918498
it's incomplete and i think lost highway did a better job with the same idea.

lmao

Lost Highway is dank as fuck tho

Suckdog - Little Flowers Dying

Really I don't know. Nothing compares to inland empire
>>
>>63918616
>dank
please dont
>>
>>63918552
I think Lost Highway was a different idea. But I've only seen Mulholland Drive once on DUDE.

Also David Lynch having incomplete movies has usually been a thing since Blue Velvet. Though I don't know if Elephant Man suffered the same (Now that I think about it, so may Wild at Heart).
>>
>>63918721
Aw, shucks, I should've meant "since Dune" not "since Blue Velvet"
>>
>>63918721
it deals with the same basic idea of dissociative personality
>>
>>63918760
So does almost every work by Lynch. Almost all of his themes are just lifted from K. Dick and Burroughs.
>>
coil, zappa, residents, hell even flaming lips

>>63918799
inland empire goes well beyond his usual schtick
>>
>>63918865
Nah, it's the culmination of his usual shtick. Look at the music videos he's directed after, dude is just a caricature of himself.
>>
>>63918356

a culmination would de facto go "well beyond" what you did before, or else in what sense would it be the culmination of it all?
>>
>>63918906
i disagree
>>63919116
correct
>>63919389
no. it means it's the apex of his schtick. inland empire moved outside and beyond, incorporating other ideas with his usual schtick, making it something more.e
>>
>>63919592
its weird that you think that because so much of the film is self-plagiarized from his other work, including straight up recycling footage like with the bunnies?

i don't think what lynch does is "shtick", i think he revisits profound themes. inland empire definitely provides a retrospective across all the thematic explorations of his masterpieces and in that it can be looked upon as a thematic culmination.

in terms of stylistic techniques, we have seen it before in his other films right?
>>
>>63919887
i don't think any of his other films showcase so much of his spirituality as does inland empire.
the narrative complexity is also a step up. not that that really matters though.
>>
>>63918799
I would like to add Kafka to that too.
>>
>>63919972
Lynch's 'spirituality' only appears d e e p if you haven't read VALIS or even fucking Plato.
>>
>>63920015
Blue velvet and eraserhead do. I agree w/ inland empire however.
>>
>>63919972
i would say its the same elements we are familiar with but in a more extreme form, and all happening at once.

for example, the motif in lost highway and mulholland where a character can suddenly be replaced by another character/actor with different and mysteriously related story. This happens in more advanced form in Inland Empire but I wouldn't argue to the extent that you could call it something new entirely.
>>
>>63920015
it's much easier to discuss things like that in a book. and my point never was that it is d e e p. it's simply that these things were not tackled in his previous films, but he is framing his spiritual ideas in the same(ish) narrative context of his previous work.
>>
>>63920113
it happens to many more characters in inland empire as well (more than once). but in the case of inland empire, these aren't simply regressions and dissociations, it's not the character hiding from their fucked up reality, there is a spiritual thread running between them.
>>
>>63918799
>>63920001
that would be an insult to all those authors. lynch is just b-side film with a mysterious edge
>>
>>63920202
I was stating it as a Lynch fan and even bigger fan of those authors. Both can coexist, at least Lynch has a consistent visual style that I enjoy.
>>
>>63920199
I'm just not sure why you think it's a different spiritual thread than was running through eraserhead, blue velvet, mulholland drive, lost highway, and the fucking tractor movie.
>>
>>63920251
i'm speaking purely within inland empire, between characters (laura dern and the polish prostitute, other characters and their polish counterparts/high on blue tomorrows counterparts). i don't mean common themes between his movies.
>>
>>63920315
these linked characters are not dissociated identities of the same person (as in lost highway, mulholland drive). it's that (real world + on high in blue tomorrows or w/e) plus a spiritual link across time (those two previous ones + the poland stuff). and i like that latter stuff.
>>
thanks for listening goodnight
>>
>>63918339
I think this is the best answer.
