don't worry, if you try hard enough, someday you might grasp the complexity and greatness of their work and realize how wrong you were
>>63907596
I wouldn't go that far. Top five of the last 20 years no doubt, but best ever, Nah. No where near influential enough on the industry to be considered the best.
>>63907372
Dark Tranquillity
Emperor
Neurosis
>>63907754
No he's not. Death Grips are up there, but none of the others.

They've been active within the last 20 years. How about we say anything after The Great Annihilator
>>63907446
>tfw PT stopped being good after the 90s
>Implying everything Radiohead did wasn't ripped from someone who came before them.
The 90s albums are just Pixies/R.E.M. songs with a whinier vocalist.
Kid A and onwards are just said whiny vocalist singing over Aphex Twin tracks. Or Pixies/R.E.M. songs mixed with Aphex Twin tracks.
And even Thom Yorke's whiny vocalism wasn't unique, seeing as it is the result of him making a very poor attempt to sound like Michael Stipe/Bono/Jeff Buckley.
autechre
go its only rival is the beatles until the new album this month hopefully lol blows our dicks off
Dream Theater and Miike Snow
Fatso Jetson
bruh go listen to nude tell me that shit aint incredible made me ccry
Animal Collective is way better than Radiohead
>>63907745
Not a big fan of either but I at least have SOME use for DG (it's abrasive and energetic) but none for Radiohead.
So yeah, there is my universe for example.

As someone who doesn't really listen to Radiohead, this is what i've always *assumed* about them and what has prevented me from giving any serious effort.
If you think it's unwarranted I'd love to hear why.
>>63908612
The two albums are very interchangeable. Crush With Eyeliner could be on The Bends, or Bones could be on Monster, and no one would bat an eyelid if they were sung by the same vocalist.
>>63908570
AnCo is very original and unique. Radiohead is pop music disguised as experimental bullshit

>Radiohead's Thom Yorke has said that, while at school, "the Pixies had changed my life"

I've been here for less than a year and I've read this shit a thousand times.
Try again.
>>63908741
Pop music can be "good" though, there's no reason why using musical elements from more experimental genres would make your pop music worse if you were writing good enough underlying songs.
bruh the song writing esp on ok computer and in rainbows was pretty fucking good & complimented by interesting & complex arrangements like listen to let down or reckoner or the tourist that shit is Radiohead.
>>63908710
I mean, they're very different albums lyrically and R.E.M. pushes the envelope much further than Radiohead on Monster. Let Me In and Tongue are definitely much further than Radiohead dared to go. That being said, in instances Radiohead were showed off what idiosyncrasies they had at the time, it blows Monster out of the water. It's definitely their best record as it shows them doing something they actually know how to do.

What does that have to do with anything? We were discussing whether not it was of quality, not whether or not it was original or experimental.
