People tend to treat it like the holy grail because they act like Bowie could do no wrong and since now that he's dead, it's a travesty to say any other 2016 album is better. Painting With is AnCo's most immediately enjoyable album and it has some really solid songs. A bit weaker than SJ and MPP but I got friends into AnCo through that album
M83 couldn't handle the success of Midnight City and has lost his way
The Violent Femmes haven't made anything good in years

It's the year irony went too far. All of these artists were going for a mixed-bag, White Album aesthetic, and rather than getting misunderstood masterpieces we got inconsistent messes. Ironically enough, Weezer's White album is one of the most consistent releases of the year. I'd put it up there with Blackstar, Grandfeathered, Human Performance, and that Washing Machine album as the best of the year so far (though I haven't heard many lower-key releases yet, I have a big backlog to go through).

M83 Junk is a great EP and a terrible LP.
There are 7-9 good tracks on it depending on your taste. As a whole it is an awful, awful album that does not flow AT ALL. Create your own JUNK EP.
