"I never owned any of Ted's albums but given the near mythical status of Double Live Gonzo I thought I would pull on my rubber boots and wade in.
And anyways, you don't own this album I've been told - it owns you.
From the get go, its easy to see that this guy is fucking bat-shit crazy.
I probably dont need to tell you that one could fill pages with Uncle Ted's more widely publicized exploits.
He should only ever be allowed to speak onstage, plugged into a guitar and in front of a wall of guitar amps.
Because that is when he makes perfect sense.
And when he does, all the rightwing, nutjob, loony ravings you associate with the guy all just melt away in a maelstrom of riffs.
Forgiven and forgotten.
Because this man can also play like a fucking beast.
Gonzo is an overwhelming, guitar onslaught that takes no prisoners and makes no apologies for the carnage it leaves in its wake.
Expect raging, fed-back guitar solos and if your a generation too young to have heard Ted's famous "Stranglehold" - let it wash over you and listen for that bit where he feeds back his Gibson Byrdland for a single note, 10 second solo.
The spaces between songs are filled with snippets of a raving, 1000 words per second Nuge, who (despite his anti-drugs stance) sounds like he has just snorted a KFC family bucket full of amphetamines.
This album is all about the man and every ounce of brash, guitar slinging fucking attitude that goes with it, 70's stadium rock in its prime.
