Don't even try to guess it because I guarentee you can't. They're not popular in america, let alone /mu/. If you're really curious, all i'll say is they had a 20 minute song that was cut down and put in a condom commercial.

>>
>>63873161
>Silent Alarm is about 9/10
The most killer debut record from any Indie Rock band, blows Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire out of the water.
>A Weekend In the City is also 9/10
I liked this and it grew on me even more after various listens, receives mixed reviews but I am on the positive side. The Post-Rock influences compliment Bloc Party even more here.
>Intimacy 5-6/10
Experimentation and variety keeps things fresh but in this case it wasn't the right experimentation for the band.
>Four 7/10
Varied as fuck, good tracks and shit tracks. The Healing, So He Begins to Lie, Kettling, Truth, Day 4 are all great tracks though and they prove the Bloc Party spirit is still alive.
>Hymns 5/10
Not as many shitty tracks as Intimacy but not as many great tracks as the other albums. The greater tracks still aren't very great here either. The most average middle-of-the-road release, for a hiatus from a very strong consistent band. New lineup and new songwriting styles just didn't work here. Still a handful of worthy tracks here. Not a handful, but you know... a small number.
>>
Pic related is their only good/listenable album if you're not 14.

Actually catchy hardcore punk / pop punk / emo / alternative rock / post-hardcore with imaginative lyrical imagery to some extent. Song structures aren't typical verse chorus verse chorus shit... to some extent. Handful of downright good songs.

Don't know why they fucked up their entire second album and made barely listenable 2-minute whining pop punk "emo" songs. Very formulaic and unimaginative.

Black Parade is your typical 12-14 year old dark edgy rock album. It sucks actually. Kind of catchy in some songs. That's it.

Last album is super radio-friendly commercial pop album. No character, no personality. Boring.

Hopefully the other tumblrcore bands follow their lead and stop making music.

It's a very popular band, but they're popular for their 80s/00s work. /mu/ sometimes rates the 80s albums well.
>>
>>63875980
Sonic Youth's experimental stuff came at the beginning and back of their career. Plus their 2000's stuff wasn't a re-hash at all. Murray Street i could see where you could make a case for that but Sonic Nurse is definitely a stand out album from them. SN and Rather Ripped both fit in a lot with what other bands were doing around that time, even if a lot of what everyone else was doing was already influenced by Sonic Youth.
