What is the creepiest, most unsettling, instrumental song you've ever heard?
>>
>>63808074
Traumerai by Wagner
>>
>>63808074
Hamburger Lady.
>>
>>63808074
Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima by Penderecki
>>
>>63808273
Ah, great choice. Penderecki has done a lot of great stuff.

I find Aphex Twin makes some good unsettling pieces. His ambient albums have a few solid ones.

>>63808326
Yeah, most of SAWII makes my skin crawl.
>>
>>63808472
OP here, that's exactly what I'm looking for! Not "BOO!", but a skin-crawling sensation. Like in a horror movie when we're building-up to the scare. Tension, suspense, etc.
>>
>>63808508
They aren't instrumental, but some Radiohead songs may fit the bill. You can really hear the influence of Penderecki in tracks like How to Disappear Completely and Climbing Up the Walls.
>>
>>63808748
I can check it out, sure. Any suggestions are welcome. Instrumental isn't a necessity, just songs where the vocals aren't intrusive. (I'm looking for background music)

how to destroy angels by coil as a whole is kinda spooky but tectonic plates is the only track that gave me legit fear, couldnt help but think i hear knocking.

told a friend he should play it on headphones while in the woods at night but he had to put them off. claimed it was because how loud it was tho
>>
>>63808939
Oh wow, lots of options. Thank you!
>>
>>63808122
was going to say this
>>
That Swans track where the guy has a monologue about how you tried to make breakfast.
>>
>>63808122
'instrumental'
>>
>>63809944
Is a monologue really instrumental?

>>
>>63808074
Ya'll niggas are amateurs with this new stuff. Alas, Echoes by Pink Floyd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhbQGyUK7aI
make sure you listen through the whole thing, it's not an easy listen at first.
>>
Something from ligeti. Maybe it's called melodiem for orchestra
>>
>>63808074
Honestly, not much really frightens me. However, certain bits of the Space Odyssey soundtrack are unsettling AF. I could never watch it high simply due to that reason.

The second half, after the Tangerine Dream phrase, when the noise starts. It's hellish. It made me shit my pants the first handful of times I listened to it. It's glorious.

Imagine him waking up @ 2 in the morning and putting something like this together.

Anyways that's how I thought it might happen, I pretty sure I read this interview with him a long time ago that that was how alot of his ambient shit came to him. Like waking up from dreams or some shit.

I have a lot of nightmares and most of the time my mind also creates a quite lovely backdrop of harsh industrial/dark ambient that can haunt me for days at a time..hard to explain I suppose.
>>
Plenty of noise stuff would fit the bill. Maybe something from Sunn O))'s Black One, like Bathory Erzsebet. Having trouble remembering others right now.
>>
Sun Ra's Atlantis is kind of frightening to me

Also, maybe some of Buckethead's Death Cube K stuff?

John Cage 4'33" - it's incredibly unsettling to sit in silence for a long period of time
>>
Cage's 4'33" is in fact incredibly trite; far from being creepy, it generates long pure waves of anger from how obvious and stupid it is. It's like the type of modern art which is art because it makes things oversized; it's not a pencil it's a BIG PENCIL thus art; it's not a penny it's a really BIG PENNY thus art. It's art by mindless extension, or reduction. It's the worst possible type of "conceptual art." It is art by moron. The only thing unsettling about such obvious works is that anyone, anywhere, paid them any attention at all.
