The time for death is now.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, whine about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, just let the good times flow.

I've given up on topsters, time for a tourney.

36 entries. No more. No less.

I'll have it done before the end of the month, probably within the weeks.

Rules are they can't be already rated on https://rateyourmusic.com/~papasmurph1 , you must have a trip and visit once every two days while the tourney is ongoing, and reccs can't be more than a couple hours long unless you really need to.

Entries should be on slsk or the archive or provided by the user.

Also, can someone teach me how to insert a background to this on paint.net? I have no idea how to use this software.

Idk why but this board's gotten super toxic recently. Like, it's always been bad, but it's gotten a bit worse recently. I also noticed that as soon as poseur-core started picking up steam the Jason Aldean posts died down. I'd be willing to bet it's the same guy(s).

I made this chart years ago and wish it would just die. It's inaccurate and has a lot of bad shit on it.

However, these albums are worth checking out.
>Die Sektor - To Be Fed Upon
Edgy, but damn good. Top aggrotech album, sweet production all around that you will be able to appreciate, even if you are not an aggrotech fan.

>Grendel - Harsh Generation
Euro as fuck. but extremely loveable. Strong cyberpunk vibes all over. Musically stronger than most aggrotech, there's a considerable amount of good harmonies and synths to be found here.

>Aesthetic Perfection - A Violent Emotion
Passionate anger and actually had way more variety than most aggrotech. It's got a bunch of angry aggrotech club songs, but it's far from mindless.

>Psyclon Nine - Divine Infekt
Got some decent cyberpunk vibes going on, unique production for aggrocrap. It's a cheese fest though and inconsistent. But the better songs are what make it truly worthwhile.

>Mindless Faith - Medication for the Misinformed
Shouldn't even really be here. Good electro-industrial/EBM, also unique sounding and is packed infectiously danceable beats.

>>63793583
Thanks for the first 3 recs, not familiar with them and will def listen. I've heard about Townes Van Zandt and don't know much other than he's a country artist.

I've heard those albums except for John Fahey and love them. Halcyon Digest and Ween are on my chart lol

>>63793588
Love this album too.
I feel like I forgot a few when I filled that chart out. Like Pet Sounds, some Pavement record, and You're Living All Over Me should be on there.

>>63793560
I'm not really familiar with this thread at all. I just thought it was a general music discussion thread where people post their favorite albums/what they've been listening to and you just rec each other based on that.
>>
>>63793640
>:wumpscut: - Embryodead
Not truly aggrotech, but more of a precessor of it and one of the bands who helped lay its foundation. Solid electro-industrial, probably the biggest classic of all for EBM fans on this list. Definitely recommend it. If you liked it, check out Wreath of Barbs by him as well.

>Dioxyde - Social Phobia
One half of it is a little bleak, the other half of it is strong dark electro and EBM influenced aggrotech. Musically very strong, solid production and exceptional composition for aggrotech, The vocals are even harsh, yet intelligible. Definitely go for this one.

>The Retrosic - God of Hell
Enjoyable electro-industrial/aggrotech. Also unique in this sea of supersaw fart synths.

>Aslan Faction - Blunt Force Trauma
Slightly dated production, sort of cheesy and inconsistent. But somehow, that is the charm here. More or less worth checking out.

>Combichrist - What the Fuck is Wrong With You People?
Absolutely hated by elitists, one of the most poppy aggrotech acts every to have spawned and contributed to fucking up the EBM scene as a whole. Yet, this album has some catchy music on it that shines like a light in the muddled career of the band. You might like it.

My tourney ( >>63792400 ) has 32 entries total and 26 spots open. Literally no reason not to join. Please join pls ;_;
>>
>>63793763
>Centhron - Roter Stern
Aggrotech club garbage at its finest. At least, it would be, if [x]-Rx and Eisenfunk weren't on this list (I seriously hate those two bands.) However, despite it embracing all that is garbage about aggotech, it's surprisingly good and often enjoyed by people who are not a fan of the genre. Tight production, very hard hitting and very danceable. Ultimately turns aggrotech's weaknesses into its strengths.

And not on the chart, but you should check it out:
>C-Drone-Defect - Dystopia
Orchestral influenced aggrotech. Sounds huge, is very original, even innovative but heavily underrated. I would say this is the most sophisticated aggrotech act I have seen so far.

>Chrysalide - Personal Revolution
Not precisely aggrotech, but influenced by it. Minimal-like electro-industrial which takes influence from a lot of other genres, such as techno, dubstep and trap. Inconstent, but has some absolute banging tracks. Definitely recommended if you happen to dig one of the releases on here.

Enjoy the listening.

>>63793410
>there dont seem to be any aggrotech experts on daily or mu yet
Reporting in m8. I have a big distaste for the genre nowadays though. Most of it is an endless sea of basically dumb goth EDM. Can't get around the angsty or edgy themes, emotionally immature lyrics, over-abused supersaw synths, distorted beats and goblin fart vocals.

>Quickspace - Precious Falling
>The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy
>Galaxie 500 - Today
>Bowery Electric - Beat
>Dadamah - This is Not a Dream

From all those hip-hop and rap albums, I would rec
>Lil Ugly Mane - Uneven Compromise
>Any album by Dälek
>New Kingdom - Paradise Don't Come Cheap
>Edan - Beauty and the Beat
>Quasimoto - The Unseen
>Man Bites Dog - Noir

Hello friend, would you like to reccomend me some music pham?

I like alternative rock mostly, I like OK Computer the most out of Radiohead's albums, then In Rainbows and third The Bends bc meme
Nirvana is meme gimmicks, but that's as in for the lyrics since the instrumental in most of them are ok-good
Blur is also good, I have their Blur album, Modern Life is Rubbish and 13
I only have one album of Oasis and it's What's the Story (Morning Glory) and as you can guess, yeah, I did liked Wonderwall, partly because of a girlfriend I had that also loved that song and it was the first song I learned to play on guitar

I love how the guitar sounds, in most of its forms
>Climbing up the walls (OK Computer)
>Karma Police (OK Computer)
>My Iron Lung (The Bends)
>JUST (The Bends)
>You're so great (Blur)
>For Tomorrow (MLiR)
>Wonderwall (WTS?(MN))

Yeah, I'm a normie, sorry in advance
>>
>>63794042
Yeah the Lil Ugly Mane rec was based off the Death Grips releases on the chart. If you're a huge DG fan I can assure you you'd also enjoy Paradise Don't Come Cheap. I got it from a DG-core chart a while ago, and it's got this excellent Las Vegas desert vibe.

The Fall - This Nation's Saving Grace
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me
Slowdive - Souvlaki
>>
>>63794336
Np on reccomending american stuff dude! I'm not even British...
>>
>>63794319
>Faust - So Far and IV
>Can - Ege Bamyasi, Monster Movie, Tago Mago, Future Days
>For Penderecki listen to the split he did with Jonny of Polymorphia/ 48 Responses to Polymorphia.
>Neil Young - After the Gold Rush, Harvest
>Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue and Bitches Brew
>Charles Mingus -The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady
>R.E.M. - Document
>Pixies - first 4 albums

For Jonny's solo work, look into Bodysong, the Doghouse piece, Norwegian Wood,There Will Be Blood and The Master soundtracks.

>>63794448
Half of those are american and half british, to be on the safe side.

If you haven't listened to it already, it should be a prerequisite for "alt rock" et al. Even if you don't like the album, it's an incredibly important listen. Their follow-up album rocks way harder though.

HERE'S THE TOURNEY SO FAR

Only 13 spots are taken. Less than HALF!!! We still got 19 spots left to fill. Take the risk of losing and join this tourney!! Just rec an album with a tripcode and commit to visiting /daily/ once every two days to be eligible.

If your album hasn't already been rated by https://rateyourmusic.com/~papasmurph1 (it can even be on my "to do!" Gets my backlog done quicker!) then it's fine to do!

Brutal wank. It's hard to imagine that Lonberg-Holm is really playing the cello here. Nice drums as they say. Did not enjoy that much.
7/10

>Rovo - Tonic 2001
Fantastic live album. It sounds like Vision Creation Newsun, not surprising considering both bands share the same guitarist. It's so entrancing and fun that the 2 hours length is not really a problem. Also, you can't go wrong when playing psychedelic rock with some guy improvising on his Conrad-esque violin. Nice drums too btw.

I really like the charm of this record, but like with Brel, I find my enjoyment is quite limited because I can't understand the lyrics (though much less here, as it's a pop record, so less about the contents of the lyrics probably and more about the feeling they conjure)

>Bob Dylan - s/t
It's not too bad, starts off fairly solid but it gets pretty same-y and just gets pretty boring. The harmonica is a nice touch but it starts to get a bit grating towards the end of the album.
5/10

>TFUL282 - Strangers From The Universe
Great album. I love that 90s indie rock sound as it is but these guys put an interesting experimental twist on it. It blends humour and beauty in a way I've only heard from Ween before. If there's any complaints it's that the "feller filler," whilst incredible at some points, does seem a bit unnecessary at times.

alrighty
need some recs from Talking Cat, Thomas, Sobbing and Transcendental Black God

Dalek - Abscense
got some good bass guitar nice beats
it's fine, very aggressive though, seemed to have a very simple discussion of the social issues at hand (I could here the shit he was saying coming out of a Highschool aged white guy)

Kurt Vile - Wakin on a Pretty Daze
This has a really solid opening pretty dreamin swood stuff guy
I can see my dad liking this, the songs are long and lock into this groove that has you walking to it's beat man, I dig it so much

Watsonian Institute - Master Funk
Eh, not as funky as I would have liked for an album called master funk, maybe because I've cherry picked the very best of the genre listening to funkadelic and earth wind and fire, maybe I have the Loveless effect going on (where every album in a given genre is just not worth listening to anymore)

btw, as you're maybe/probably better versed in this than I am: what are you going to do with the referendum and why? Imo, it's not really a question for a referendum so I don't really want to vote (plus I think it's stupid that GeenPeil just wanted a referendum and as I view it, didn't really pick this thing because they wanted it overturned, although it probably is sth with the EU on purpose, I don't know)
but the bottom line is that I kind of feel bad if I don't vote, for whatever reason. Is there like a detailed explanation of the subject somewhere? I'm not about the read 100s of pages

Alright, round 1 is in! Sorry about the time this took to get going, with my indeterminate schedule I was just picking albums off my other chart, but now I can get back into this.

Nobody has been knocked out yet, as we've just populated the losers' bracket. No restrictions for round 2.
>>
>>63802691
>BB King - Live At The Regal [Tripfriend]
Really hearty and lively; I especially enjoy the evidence of showmanship and encouraging variety out of the by-appearances-limiting blues chord structure. 7.5

>Big Moe - City of Syrup [Hasture]
The beats are just incredibly refreshing and his lyrics and intonation have the "summer classic" vibe - y'know, the lawns are green, drinks in the back, roof off the car. Brings good memories. 7.0

>Voyager Golden Record [I'm Fish]
...Not really sure how I should rate this, but I can't help but be disengaged by it, even after its significance's implications. Maybe because each piece aimed to represent a time, style or culture, they feel blueprint. Afraid I can't really explain it. 5.0

>Bone Awl / The Rita - Bone Awl / The Rita [Herb]
The Rita's foamy bubbling has Bone Awl rise to give a subtle, barely discernible structure to the chaos. This is one of my fetishes. I love this controlled madness, the Rita's jagged edges are soft and closer to Prurient, and they devour the faint guitar wails whenever they rise on behalf of Bone Awl. This is my kind of beautiful - 9.0

>Wha-ha-ha - Shinu Toki wa Betsu [Misha]
I like how Misha is giving me a band called Whahaha. I also like this kind of controlled chaos - that is, that kind where it's focused playing to produce bananas-type songs. Gives me P-Model vibes for sure, but maybe a bit too much improv? 6.5

>Robert Ashley - Private Parts [Benji]
The appeal for me is actually how soothing the gentle undulations of the instrumentation pair with the narration. It's like it was made to directly produce the relaxation release of an audiobook. 6.5

>Smog - The Doctor Came At Dawn [yamir]
The amount of rust would've sunk that there ship on the sea. It's that groaning wood aesthetic that made me love Smiling Dogs. Great stuff, although I think the second half trumps the first with the beasts like All Your Women Things, Four Hearts in a Can. 7.0
>>
>>63802620
Dopethrone is marijuana consumption, Fake Train is vandalism. Both pretty edgy and illegal if you ask me.
>>
>>63802793
>The Cardigans - Life [Eruditey]
It's not outstanding, just some solid catchy indie pop. Doesn't really do any wrong, nor does it exceed expectations. I actually don't like it for precisely that reason. sorry ;-; 4.5

>Nalle - Wilder Shores of Love [good friend rodriguez]
Good, reminds me of Urunosora without the sugary pink filter, in that it feels isolated and sad - the kind of cold and lonely that brings vivid imagery, although there is dynamic range, it's got that world-in-a-bubble atmosphere that I appreciate. 7.0

>Muddy Waters - Folk Singer [Torts]
This is cosy. So super cosy, with a lovely singer that also takes you on his journey. Although it didn't really entice any extra feelings from me, the gentle cruise and his oodles of style make it worthwhile. 6.0

>Movietone - Day and Night [GZO]
Unfortunately not my thing, everything kind of melts together because it's all a bit TOO hushed and intimate. The track Useless Landscape was alright, gentle chugging rhythm there - but otherwise not my cuppa. 3.5

>Subtle - For Hero, For Fool [Sn]
Hip hop feeling like a big procession with lots of colouration and imagery. One of the more stylish hip-hop records I've heard recently, although the effect wears off after a while. I feel a 6 but I'm tempted to return to this, it's caught my interest.
>>
>>63802812
>Ryuichi Sakamoto - Thousand Knives Of [Damo Eye]
This is genuinely so amazing, I'm so happy this exists. He's centralised all those wild, free-running ideas in his mind - something I've wanted to do forever - and expressed himself. It's a genius fusion of I can't name how many genres. I'm high off of excitement. 10

>GFOTY - Cake Mix [Kanzler]
I like it dude, I'm starting to warm to PC Music now. I still think I prefer the side-cruise that is music on stuff like Activia Benz, and to a certain extent Orange Milk, etc. But this was a good, brief and fun-spirited mix. 7.5

>Jai Paul - BTSTU [co]
I mean, I love the sound, but I'd like to see more done with it. Seems a bit indefinite and unclear - I feel like he should've put in some extra tracks for well needed flourishes, make himself an EP out of this. 6.0

>Jambinai - Difference [nyarlathotep]
Great stuff, really beautiful post-rock that flows very smoothly through its different fusions. I can't really say much more, it's won me. 8.0

>Iron - A Being So Great

I’ll try to be concise but critical.

+: all the instrumentations, reoccurring loops (and the slight variety in their progressions), several moments where the synths sounded like actual musical boxes with complex harmonies, the kaleidoscopic piano on the closer.
-: the closing section of I. Tennis Practice & An Aura had a very bare synth progression, the 22 minute track would probably benefit from more variety in-between the chord changes.

I definitely liked Feeling Buried better, but this was good too! If I was you, Torts I would probably try to implement a unique element to the longer tracks like the sax playing from your first album. It's a centerpiece and I feel like it could be much more powerful if 10 minutes in something like a sax solo section happened. Then again, it is just my opinion.

I don't think a minority of Dutch people are qualified to overthrow a decision made by 28 countries that mostly concerns a country that is not the Netherlands. In addition, as you mentioned the referendum was created more as a way to annoy the EU and, from GeenStijl's side, to gain attention and money (they had been dropped by Telegraaf Media Groep right before the referendum law was signed, so they just took that opportunity to gain more attention and got picked back up by TMG as a result). There's also the problem that a: I'm not a fan of referendums, b: I'm especially not a fan of the Dutch referendum with its 30% minimum voter turnout (which encourages strategic voting) and c: I'm completely against this referendum due to the fact that it's about a subject that most people don't know jack shit about.

So yeah, I'm principally against it as a whole and won't vote, despite my newly acquired right to vote. In terms of whether the EU-Ukraine treaty is wrong or right, there's strong arguments for and against it once you look past the bullshit spewed by Jan Roos & friends on one side and the establishment clique on the other side. Here's a few things that might inform you further:

those articles are of great help. Your own opinion is quite literally my own, so it's good to know I'm not crazy.
Still don't really know what to do though. I feel dirty not voting purely because I don't want them to get to 30% and according to some polls they will probably get 30% anyway, so maybe I'll just vote yes, but we'll see.

Honestly, if your curriculum is put together in any remotely similar fashion to mine, you will not have much time to read much outside of that. Secondary litterature is the winner for political philosophy because you, as a student, will not come to any revolutionary understanding of say, Hobbes or Locke. Leo Strauss is a good take for secondary interpretive litterature in political philosophy. All the main works, you will get acquainted with anyway, so there is not much point in recommending them. I have an English translation of Plato's Republic, by Allan Bloom, if you are interested. Otherwise, Political Thinkers by Boucher and Kelly (2003) is a good introduction but you will probably get that on your curriculum if your political theories lecturer knows what (s)he is doing.

For some fun, check out How to Defend Society Against Science by Feyerabend and the paradigm theory of Lakatos; both are pretty interesting epistemological observations about the philosophy of science, just for a detour. Just make sure to find something that puts paradigme theory in context with political science.

The problem with direct democracy is that, realistically speaking, most people can't make a proper assessment of the costs and benefits that come with a certain political matter. This is especially true in an age of interdependence, where many a political decision (especially one with regards to the EU) has an effect on so many different actors with conflicting interests that I feel it's unjust to let regular citizens with (on average) little understanding of politics make a decision about it. These things are better left to elected politicians, who should have much more expertise in such matters.

I do think referendums could work in certain cases, especially on a more local level, where citizens can see the direct consequences of a certain policy (and I'm quite interested in possibilities for a political system where subsidiarity is pushed through even more than it is as of now). More global matters, however, simply aren't to be decided upon by ordinary citizens who simply do not have the time or the interest to indulge themselves in the subject matter and carefully assess the pros and cons for all parties involved.

I feel people here, but it's definitely not something I would go back on. The long track, and actually the closing section of "I. Tennis Practice & An Aura" are intended to be slower and not engaging on an overt level. If they were it would defeat the purpose of the album.

The intent with many sections of the album was to make something that was more intimate & less obvious. For meditative listening, in a sense.

aka "new age"

Definitely hear the criticism though, but it's not something I'd change in this case.

Thanks for feedback <3
