I agree, a completely different album for the era, specially because it doesn't associate itself with gangsta rap common from the early 90's in the west coast, making it really a bizarre ride through some wacky and humorous lyrics on top of really good instrumentals. I enjoy conscious lyrics, but I can also enjoy the humor and attitude and pride that comes with gangsta rap. It's just like how thousands of metal albums try to describe the apocolypse and hellfire and killing people and judgement day. There's still plenty of metal that doesn't, it's just a prevalent theme. And ya I don't always focus on lyrics but artists like Big L that can use these themes while twisting words around and shifting time signatures and using word play are extremely interesting to listen to even if you find the lyrics unappealing
