You don't need theory for listening to music because theory is for reading notes for conducting an instrumment that is apart of a composition or composing your own song (something you probably can't do). These aren't involved while listening to music. The word "aesthetic" has a broader meaning than the way in which ___wave/cloud rap listeners use it.
The way that music or art makes somebody think, feel, move, etc. is all part of "aesthetic experience".
Artists tend to study the technical side of their art so that they can understand how to give their audience a certain aesthetic experience. The technical side of music does include knowledge of composition, production, etc. but also understanding the history and philosophy behind paradigms in the music world. So, the "technical" side of music is important for both artists and musicologists, but not necessarily for the audience.
