I used to play Sid Meiers Pirates all the time as a kid and this post reminded me to check out sea shanties again, as I loved them in Pirates. IIRC there's certain shanties for "hauling" work, i.e pulling a rope to hoist sails, and heaving work, like pushing a capstan around. There's all kids of little shanties that were sung for specific tasks, sung with different song structures fit to the task at hand. AC IV is fun for this stuff as well, you literally collect shanties in that game.
