benny profane here.
Today I listened to
>Frank Zappa - The Best Band You Never Heard
2/5 || weak 4 / 10

Have to say, I didn't really enjoy it. There was actually a bit too much filler/joking around for me, and a lot of the covers on the second side got a bit repetitive for me to listen to.

Now listening to "Dharma" by Merzbow, which is sounding fairly good so far.

idk, i'm too lazy to source stuff but there's occasionally been some quite interesting hip hop discussion and i know dogwander reviews+enjoys top40 stuff from time to time, plus people like transgod who're pretty shamelessly into low cultural-capital stuff like nu-metal.
i suppose that post is a little hyperbolic, but i think the main point is that the way people characterize /daily/- as a place where people obsessively preen and try to obtain cultural capital from 'avant' music- is basically inaccurate, as is the idea that there's a general sense of superiority and stigmatisation of other kinds of music. there's certainly a lot of people around here who are into basic /mu/ stuff and indie rock/pop, and i think the obsession with avantshit etc is waayy overstated.
i feel dumb even responding to the poser meme but idk. whatever.

Is this shit fixed yet? Don't even want to post here right now.

>Electric Heavyland
Almost too gnarly. So loud and abrasive and layered that the mix is muddied and you can't much discern different parts. Not essential AMT--just if you've already heard the big ones. 6/10
>>
>>63743190

rbt.asia shows that 4chan is automatically adding the names to posts like someone entered them in the Name field.
>>
>>63743190
the archive lists the meme names so they probably won't go back. my name field's stayed the same all day tho
>>
>>63743210
Yeah, do La Novia tho.
>>
>>63743216
yeah but how does the archive work? does it just save the pages periodically?

i could see the archive working in a way that would capture the names, but 4chan itself working in a way that the names are just added by a script and could be reverted if the real names are attached to the post data

only time will tell
>>

For it to be nothing like the two, unless you are going to do melodic drumming. Which very little people do.

Also, be prepared to face the fact that you cannot move your feet and arms independently. Which is hugely frustrating. If you're a natural talent like me, at best you will lay down really basic drum beats at first at slow tempo and it will be inconsistent.

>Esquivel & His Orchestra - Four Corners of the World
I expected something much more boring from lounge music. It's actually engaging, probably coming from the fact that all the tracks are classics. Esquivel is a fantastic piano player, there's not that much fun in the rest of the instrumentation.
6/10

>Richard Youngs - Festival
This is hard to describe. At some moments it reminded me of I'm Happy and I'm Singing and a 1,2,3,4. I didn't care about the more improvisational tracks (2 and 4) and frankly they we're annoying. The rest beautiful though. I wish the final track would've lasted forever honestly. The moment where he started singing over the drone and the percussion was heavenly. Oddly, the rare vocals did not feel out of place at all.

This is an interesting recording. A performance of Miles' earlier program from a tour that was originally criticised by the European critics for the behaviour of the performers. From reading the booklet, it seems like Davis and the crew acted as though the Europeans just "don't get it" on stage. It isn't really clarified what gave this notion away, but it is an interesting reaction.

This particular recording includes Coltrane who originally wasn't on the bill for the tour but joined for a couple of shows as far as I understand. His playing here is probably the most interesting thing to observe because he abandons a rather traditional sound that was audible on Kind Of Blue and follows into his eventual free jazz era. A great example of such extremety is around the 8th minute mark of Walkin. He goes off the hook.

The other thing I found interesting in the renditions of So What are the drumming tempos. The entire piece gets an extra kick and loses this feeling of casualty (or "coolness") the original possesses. Not sure if I'm a fan of that.

The quality of the recordings is varied. All Of You which boasts some Trane soloing cuts off with an indefinite ending, while the final performance of So What from the Frankfurt show just sounds like shit.

It is an interesting listen. I think the recording in itself is a notable document and worthy of at least one listen. I should probably get that 3 CD boxset of the 1960 tour recordings some time in the future.

listened to disc 1 of tarentel - ghetto beats on the surface of the sun this morning. the drumming on sun place is very compelling. pretty into the combination of live drumming and electronic manipulation. the calmer ambient parts, like the last few minutes of "all things vibrations" are quite good. the glitchy last minute and a half of "dreamtigers" is awesome. gonna listen to the second disc in the car later.

unrelated: faith no more - "be aggressive" is a fun song

Super busy with uni, pretty much. This semester is so stressful.

>Is Killer Bug also by Grim?
No, it's a side project from Kazumoto Endo. Beyond the Valley of the Tapes is a 2+ hour comp with some very harsh stuff.
By grim there's the side project white hospital.
Also I feel I should mention Government Alpha.

I never got the hype around daydream nation but this one is just amazing. Shadow of a doubt, Star Power, In the Kingdom, Secret Girl, Expressway are such haunting songs. And it gets better with each listen.

this is the best sonic youth album. a little bit offended that you didn't mention "green light" because it's easily the best sonic youth song of any of their albums (close second probably being 'kissability')

>The latter was showcased during New York Fashion Week in a white circular room created inside the Park Avenue Armory. This white-washed madhouse gave models the chance to walk in a circle creating through their gargantuan coats and platform boots dramatically huge shadows, while an eerie soundtrack inspired by the Japanese artist Keiji Haino played in the background.
Is Haino officially /fa/ now or what?

Yeah the whole album is impressing.
Would you recommend me another Sonic Youth album? i've listened to DN and Dirty as well but they don't seem to work for me :/
Bad Moon Rising sounds interesting, gonna listen.

i quite like sister if you haven't heard it yet. i don't think it touches EVOL though. murray street is more (musically) low key and pretty underrated to me. love "disconnection notice"

Speaking of Boris/Merzbow, I actually have Klatter on vinyl! Ages since I listened to it, though.

Gensho has been added, anon.
>>
>>63752785
i've tried both
>>
Listened to Back In Black once again toray. The album itself is pretty meh but Shoot To Thrill is fucking got tier cmon
>>
Could anyone tell me their favourite Merzbow records?
So far I've listened to:
>1930
>13 Japanese Birds Vol. 1: Suzume
>Merzbeat
>Dharma
>Storage
>Pulse Demon (don't really get the hype)
>Merzbuta

In noise, I have also enjoyed:
>Controlled Bleeding - Knees and Bones
(I understand that some would label K&B as more of a power electronics album, but I'm guessing that due to its age and success it would have had some influence on noise music)
>Masonna - Spectrum Ripper
>Ramleh - Hole in the Heart
>Yellow Swans - Going Places
>>
>>63752758
>>63752834
Forgot trip
>>
>>63752859

>Live In Khabarovsk
>Music For TRUE ROMANCE Vol.1
>Pulverized Purple

march.jpg
1MB, 1662x1789px
so this was my march

otomo yoshihide thing was like Les Sculpteurs De Vinyl, but more unpolished

Swirlies is a great shoegaze album, even if a little little derivative

125, rue Montremartre is qt non-angry emo EP with female vocals. Probably the most fun one on this chart.
>>
>>63752938
Storage was already there, but thanks. I guess I'll just pick from the list at random
>>
>>63752758
It's 4 hours long. You can do a disc or two a day though. I happened to listen to it in one sitting, but you know what, I'm fucking hardcore.
>>
>>63752859
>noise and power electronics are different things
Stop this madness.
>>
>>63753082
>I'm fucking hardcore.
Definitely. I'll split it up or do it on a weekend day or something. Fuck the dates, actually, I'll just choose whatever I feel like listening to. Still need an album for each day, though.

I don't perceive them as different things, almost entirely because of my newness to the genre[s], but I added that note in to avoid controversy.
