Pretty overrated, he has a smooth voice, but he's got this, "I'm so tortured but I'm better than you" image which causes him to be insufferable and as a result, unlistenable.
His music is absolutely overrated. I don't know about him as a person though.
Hate him and his followers but he was a pretty core portion of a great band (INB4 >great band) and I guess he lent his own vibe to it, despite how insufferable he may be.
