Halo's was perfect for the game.
Halo's like Star Wars, the music helps guide you through a simple story that can
engage with those that watch/play it on a deeper level than most others simply for being so well balanced and fun.

This. Plus the first soundtrack had a really cool blend of synths, samplers, drum machines, and orchestral instruments that the later games failed to replicate. They basically just decided to go all generic orchestral scoring for the games after Halo 2.
While the in game music can be annoying some times, the album soundtrack is great.
