this is where I got the data from
http://www-pw.physics.uiowa.edu/voyager/data/VGPW_2001/EXTRAS/BROWSE.HTM
but it's broken up into ~30 sec tracks, I compiled it into ~15 min tracks for easier listening. from what I understand the occasional thumping sound you hear is the voyager engines correcting for the jupiter approach.
>>63672976

I'm not good at recs or guessing personalities
>>63673142
>i'll check it out thanks
it's not really proge it's neofolk but a weird take on the genre. it's building, looping violin melodies over sorta minimalist percussion. i figured a fan of post rock could appreciate something like that.
>>63673211
nice
what's it like compared to other RIO bands

i always loved their third album best, the insanely melodramatic lyrics make it a very er...visceral listen and they're tight as hell on all fronts
and that fiddle part on Freedom, damn
that shit rivals the harmonica solo on mark of the mole for most disquieting use of an american folk instrument in an avant rock thing

what the fuck, I just noticed that he has that track called A Better Tomorrow, and and album called A Much Better Tomorrow. Try listening to that instead of the track.
Pinata is definitely worth the listen. Madlib basically revives 90s hip hop in that album and Freddie Gibbs' verses are on fucking point.
>>63673688
no problem whodi
Art Zoid are great but basically have nothing to do with rock music

>>63673897

seems like a lot of RIO groups heavily lean to chamber music especially the once influenced by Univers
Oh yeah and that massive 19 member band which is a fusion of 3 RIO groups like that

>>63673944
honestly the RIO tag seems to have more to do with the ideology of the artist than anything, which is why a group like stormy 6 can sound nothing like Henry Cow and get the same label

Pretty much yeah. All 5 of the original RIO groups had virtually nothing in common in terms of sound and style
STATELY, PLUMP BUCK MULLIGAN CAME FROM THE STAIRHEAD, bearing a bowl of lather on which a mirror and a razor lay crossed. A yellow dressing gown, ungirdled, was sustained gently-behind him by the mild morning air. He held the bowl aloft and intoned:
-- Introibo ad altare Dei.
Halted, he peered down the dark winding stairs and called up coarsely:
-- Come up, Kinch. Come up, you fearful jesuit.

I was a big NIN fan when I was younger, I'm sure a lot of people were. Honestly, the only one I still listen to with any regularity is Broken. TDS was and is really over hyped, but worth a listen or two. The rest of their albums just aren't up to any reasonable aesthetic standard that I have now. But my taste is still probably shit so how can I really judge

SftD is the worst QotSA album
it goes LtP > LC > RR > EV > QotSA > SftD
Loveless is bretty gud doe
>inb4 I'm a pleb, I know
>>63676734
Interesting that you put ltp up there at the top, I love that album and spent a lot of time with it but I feel like it's one of the least conceptually strong cause he kicked oliveri out and made this spoopy thing that's like almost emo. Not saying it's bad or anything
You put my top two at the very bottom lol
I like songs for the deaf as a concept album that's really aesthetically managed to vary a lot while keeping its eyes on the road. The band was basically a supergroup at this point and they lived up to every contribution
All that being said I get your opinion tho, there've been times in the past where I probably would've agreed
SftD>QotSA>LC>RR>EV>LtP
Listen to the desert sessions if you havent already. All of them
>>63676847
I honestly just think LtP has the strongest batch of songs, and has a macho rock soul despite the werewolf/witch trappings. SftD feels all mechanical with no soul. But I got into QotSA listening to SftD. Similar reasoning applies for the rest., I was really into self titled too but a few songs drag and fall a bit short.
Desert Sessions and Kyuss are awesome, I don't know if I've listened to everything yet though
>>63676957
Yeah I mostly just said try everything cause desert sessions vary widely. Personal fave is 6: black anvil ego
And yeah, I think sftd got me into it too; I probably wouldn't like it so much if I didn't do a whole bunch of work to it haha, the whole thing just kinda stuck in me. I got to that point with the end of LtP but never the whole thing
Favorite kyuss record? Think I'd have to say blues
>>63677084
I dig both Blues and Welcome to Sky Valley, I have only listened to the other ones a couple times, too much other music by other bands and in other genres to listen to everything but I'm trying damnit
