I became the type of music fan I assume you talk about maybe 2 years ago, when I realized its more fun to like dance music and less "technical" music, and that being a rockist sucks. Part of it was based on nostalgia for music I "gave up" when I became an experimental rock/jazz type
I mostly go for obscure stuff to impress myself honestly. It's so awesome to find a killer funk 45 or electro 12" on discogs that's completely overlooked by the most avid music fans. Or to surf through weird foreign mp3 sites and find crazy shit from like Burma or Dominica. I like digging deep in record stores, online, anywhere. I show friends alot of weird shit like baile funk or slamming brutal death metal or whatever and they like it sometimes. Alot of folks actually appreciate super obscure finds, including myself.
As for the No_/tankpit thing, those aren't the only two people on the internet or in the world that enjoy music in that type of manner. I like both of them and their tastes. they seem cool and unpretentious, yet will teach me something new about music i didn't know before I talk to them.
