I can't fucking stand to see my favorite band go down the shitter any further. Painting With was a fucking DISASTER beyond any measure. Its so fucking depressing to see them go down like this like seeing a valedictorian suffer a tragic head injury and become a incapable drooling retard whoshits himself. The worst thing is their next album will be even worse than PW and when that comes out they will become the laughingstocks of the indie scene. Enough is enough. We need to do something, guys.

You think if I wrote them a polite letter about this they'll break up in order to save their legacy?

Grim Reaper was good and so was CHz, proving Avey and Panda both had it in them for another release. So, what the fuck was PW then?
>>
when is the deak album
>>
even if they continue to release trash it doesn't make their good albums any worse so why does it make a difference?
>>
I doubt they care, they seem to view their more acclaimed records like any other except they happened to get more attention.
>>
>>63625271
Painting With is a 8/10 though, you pleb.
>>
quickmeme isn't down with anco
>>
>>63625309
I think Chz was mediocre and Grim Reaper was very disappointing. Both of those albums had songs that just fell flat and were either annoying or boring.

PW is even worse.
>>
DEAK WHEN
>>
i really don't understand the hate that PW gets. what don't you like about it?

This

And it's a grower if you think it was mediocre at first listen.
>>
>>63625708
>their most pop album is a grower

If you mean a grower like when you listen to katy parry and niki minaj songs 100 times and they get stuck in your head, then yeah. If you mean that you notice new deep subtleties and become more immersed in the songs over time, then no.
>>
>>63625765

Just listen to it again
>>
>>63625309
>What the fuck was PW then?
Better than both CHz and PBVSGR, that's what.
>>
>>63625790
No. I listened to it 4 times. 1st time I said "Meh, I bet I'll like it on 2nd listen." On the second listen I said "golden gals was pretty okay." On third listen I said "goldan gals isnt that good actually." I couldn't even get through the 4th listen. Its just so bad.
>>
>>63625693

The only "understandeable" reason I can see is that the music is too straightforward, no buildups, and Panda's "Boys Latin"-style vocals on most of his tracks can become too annoying.
>>
>>63625850
im afraid to listen to it in fear ill turn out with the same opinions as you
>>
>>63625854
That, plus lyrically it feels so empty and hallow. I feel absolutely nothing listening to this. Its just bouncy synths. I might as well listen to the radio.
>>
I just want the textures and soundscapes back
fuck the melodies
>>
Painting with honestly wasn't that bad
>>
>>63625271
It's too late. They've already destroyed their legacy. Either way it's over. If they break up now then their last two albums were bad, but if they keep on making music it's just going to keep getting worse. I was really depressed when Painting With, but I tried like hell to enjoy it nevertheless. But the more I listened to it I just couldn't trick myself anymore. It's absolutely horrid. Even Centipede Hz was better, and I thought that whatever they put out would be better than that given how awkward and weak the songwriting was and how repulsive the ambiance was. But Painting With just sounds like they put absolutely no effort in, whereas at least I could hear some effort on Centipede Hz. It's like they just completely don't care at all and only put it out so that they wouldn't have gone longer without another album. This is just crushing.
>>63625444
>>63625708
I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but if you are, I honestly envy you.
>>
>>63626152

It's not

/mu/ overreacts like the drama queens they are, especially the fact Pitchfork gave it a 6.2
>>
>>63625891
i mean i think before they were singing about really emotional, impassioned stuff. being young, falling in love, figuring out the person you'll be, etc. they're getting older and so that's not really their life any more. my girls was the start of this transition i think, and it's kind of ironic that it's their most popular song. but, for instance, bagels and kiev is about your relationship with your ancestry, which is a pretty meaty, interesting subject to explore, but it doesn't hit those same raw nerves as some of their previous stuff.
>>
>>63626201
6.2 is overrating it. The album is a two.
>>
>>63626152
Huge AnCo fan, I gave it 7/10
I loved every track up to Bagels in Kiev. On Delay was good, but it fell off hard from there. Not a Golden Gal fan.

Friendly reminder that you don't actually like this band or its members if you're pissed that they're making the music they want to make and want them to retread ground from the 00s.
>>
>favorite band is AnCo
I think you have bigger problems than AnCo being shit.
>>
>>63626255
I actually don't know what I think now. The time in which they made good music keeps getting further and further away.
>>
Will we ever again an acoustic guitar on an AnCo record?
>>
>>63626297
Or maybe they aren't making the kind of music you consider good and you need to move on.

You mean besides Campfire Songs, Sung Tongs and Feels?
>>
>>63626548
Nevermind me, didn't notice you said "again".

PW was good. I remember when it first dropped /mu/ was spouting "aoty" and "best anco yet!", then p4k gave it a 6.2 and suddenly it sucks
>>
>>63625854
also i just noticed that the beginning notes of hocus pocus are the literally the same melody in natural selection. just all around lazy song writing

>>
>>63627743
This is a complaint I understand. A lot of the bassy synths sound like burps and it's really weird. Not ALL of the synths sound like that though, so try to tune them out. A lot of synth melodies are nice.

>>63625271
Hahaha I am sorry for kids like you who hate Painting With.

Its one of my favorite albums theyve done. Its amazing.
>>
>>63628001
I really can't understand this.

>>63627557
It does though. People were enjoying it at first and then that p4k article came out and the hivemind took hold because this place runs rampant with preteens who cant form their own opinions.

>>63626161
Theu arent going to break up because you faggots didnt like Painting With. Theu have always wsnted to reinvent themselves with each release and if you dont like it thats too damn bad. Cry me a river. Theu have said AnCo will most likely be a life long venture for them. So be prepared to hesr even more "shit" albums.

Also I know you kids arent into AnCo for real because asking if there will ever be an acoustic guitar on an anco album again is beyond dense. Listen to Oddsac and Transverse Temporal Gyrus you faggots.

>>
>>63625833
this. although PW is still a 6/10 at best
>>
>>63628025
And I cant understand how you hate it. The music makes me visualize the ideas of cubism and dadaism, themes that a prevalent on the album. The melodies fall in place like tetris blocks in a post modern cubist painting being swirled by disjointed melodies about societal aspects theu have never really felt part of. The hocketing provides imagery of this as well, providing a bounciness that transports these songs to different areas of thought teack by track. It gives me the idea of not being able to sit still in one place, something discussed even in Floridada. The problem with people that dislike this album is theu take it at face value and dont actuslly think about the themes or ideas AnCo is positing.

So, again sorry you dont enjoy it but that doesnt make it objectively shit.

as a person who doesn't browse /mu/ anymore and hasn't listened to any animal collective since mpp, if you find their music that awful i'd suggest you cherish the good times and be done with them. whatever they do from now on, you don't have to pay attention to it.

As a massive animal collective fan, I give pw a solid 8/10. No, it is not what we have come to expect of animal collective, but the songs are fantastic, and isn't being surprised the nature of what makes animal collective so great? Fuck everyone who started hating it after the 6.2, aka most of mu

Yeah there's some pretty deep themes and whatnot in the lyrics, but it just might not be the sound that people like to hear which is okay.

Personally I don't give a shit about lyrics for most songs, which is why I love anco. They always seem to prioritize the emotion and feeling of the song, and then sortof fit lyrics in so that they are percussive enough but still convey the emotional message of the song.

Half their lyrics are so hard to understand that I end up just screaming gibberish phonetics when I sing along and I wouldn't have it any other way.

>>63628328 is right, the album is just the happiest most joyful album they've made, amazingly high energy and makes me want to run and yell and jump and dance like a lunatic. How you've described it adds a level of """pretentiousness"" that seems perpendicular to the feeling of the album.
