Hey guys, is there any way to get my plebeian best friend that I've known for over 5 years to appreciate music. My biggest mistake was dragging him into my djent phase that I had years ago and, even though he's in his twenties now, he hasn't matured out of it.

>dragging someone into a djent phase
Are you really his friend, though?

I regret it. I didn't know anything about music and, like every djent addict ever, I thought I had the best taste in music.

My real, honest advice is to get him out of it slowly. There are some pretty patrician bands out there that he might like. Electric Wizard, stuff like that. Sludge metal and stoner/doom metal can lead to better, more interesting bands.
Idk, tho. My friend is into terrible metal music and he's only gotten worse. Tbh, just accept the fact that most people don't care enough to want to understand and appreciate all kinds of music.
Suggest an artist that has dabbled in different genres and has a lot of crossover appeal to djent fans (such as Devin Townsend).

He loves Devin Townsend.

Sludge/doom metal bores him.
Give him this

Megadeth was his first metal band when he was young. He knows some good shit, but... yeah.
What makes djent bad?
Try atmospheric djent or something to ween him off? Uneven Structure is pretty alright.

He loves all forms of djent. Even the tolerable stuff, but he gravitates towards it because of "mmmm le downtuned breakdown".
djent sounds like some scary disgusting music
i have a general idea of what it is and i'm already disgusted
