His general un-photogenic-ness shouldn't matter, but as a pop star you get your picture taken a lot so it matters I guess. Like along the lines of what Buzz said about Kurt, if he wasn't such a pretty boy, MTV wouldn't have ate him up. Which makes Young Thug's ugliness sort of cool, because he has mass appeal without it being based on attractiveness...or something
