its really abrasive, especially for its time. and thats exactly what they were going for at the time (atleast i hope thats what they meant to do).
pretty much anything that was under-appreciated in the pre internet days is going to have an opportunity blow up and be big in the modern age, thanks to how we all sit here and constantly post about all the same shit all the time. swans is obviously no exception to this rule.
the real question is whether or not the album is over-rated. i think it depends on the sample size. around here, yes they are over-rated. but i mean they basically were the grandfathers of extreme music of all flavors. and most people (im talking outside of 4chan now) dont know they exist. in that sense they are under-rated.

It's telling that cases can be made for all the others, though.
If only because it's not the runaway victor it's often made out to be. It's definitely a solid contender for their best but a few of their other albums are fair competition.
