Do You think prog rock is dead ? , if its not tell us why
>>
>>63529758
Because I don't really care about what anyone thinks about music

I care what people think, sure...about things I want opinions on. But music? That shit is for me to decide if it's good or not.

Good prog rock bands still exist, and the veterans are still coming out strong with new material.

>new tool album soon

My body couldn't have been more ready.
>>
Technically it's not, but it's been reduced to musicians doing elaborate, wacky performances for the sake of doing elaborate wacky performances with little concern for decent songwriting and meaning. Bands like Yes and King Crimson could balance their excellent musicianship with great composition, which while making for good songwriting on its own also compliments the musical showmanship by giving those elaborate performances a reason to exist.
>>
no because omar will be fine
>>
>>63529880
>Yes and King Crimson could balance their excellent musicianship with great composition

Sometimes. Just like prog bands now. Nothing changed except its popularity.
>>
Its certainly diminished in size, but that shouldn't be too surprising as the music is quite inaccessible to the masses.

Good prog bands are still around, you just have to look for them. Hell, the more "known" prog bands like Porcupine Tree, Tool, and even early Dream Theater are quite good (although I've found Meme Theater's singer is godawful and the amount of wankery in the songs is abysmal. We get it, you're a good musician.).
>>
>>63529880
Radical action to unseat the hold of monkey mind and meltdown are some of king crimsons best songs and proof that they've still got it
>>
>>63529758
yes it is dead
>>
I like prog rock XD
>>
If rock continues to progress in any ways, the bands truly experimenting (mind you, not noodling dicks on their guitars for hours) will be highly regarded. That is, those on the bleeding edge of what is being pushed in the what feels like fully fleshed out genre of rock, will continue to blow our minds.

The Light of Day sounds like a weird post-rock era Talk Talk piece combined with King Crimson's even more experimental tendencies. I saw them live last year and it was honestly really impressive, I can't wait to see what the next album has in store for us

I'm hype for new Big Big Train, Gazpacho, and Seven Impale.

Tool isn't prog rock in the sense that I'm guessing the OP is referring to.

alt prog/prog metal

We usually discuss all facets of prog unless the op makes it clear that he is a retarded wrong-generationfag. This one is kinda vague.

The only progish musician in tool is the drummer. The guitaris is a moron who knows nothing but power chords and the bassist is a psychedelic kid who can jam but sure as fuck isn't prog.

you're the one who made the original claim. I'm asking about what you see in the genre, since I've never paid much attention. My preconceptions of the genre may or may not be correct.

Psyche is really broad too. Generally the further it gets from "hard rock" the more like prog it sounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vKO-MVgm28
This one has the hard rock stuff and some of the good atmospheric psyche stuff.

Some people consider early Porcupine Tree psyche but not prog. I consider it prog.

It's prog that *isn't standard* that I think is the evidence that the genre isn't dead.

I actually hope >>63534597 isn't just a troll. Dislike, to some extent, legitimizes the quality of cutting-edge art.

I didn't mean any offense by calling it standard, I just meant that it is a much more accessible song. I like to listen to albums beginning to end, especially if the first song is as strong as this one is.

>>
>>63534845

I think this is what it is. Progressive Rock as a genre is dead, it's not progressing anywhere. You have to look into other genres.
>>
>>63534923
Do you think prog metal counts? I think prog may have had to include enough dissonance to be considered "metal" as its natural evolution.
>>
>>63534923
Even classic sounding prog isn't dead.
Diagonal and Big Big Train for example are still doing the old Genesis style shit.
>>
>>63533957
Thanks for checking mate. Will check the Leitmotif soon.
>>
>>63534923
and if you actually think that then you're looking at the wrong place to begin with or you simply haven't explored and tried enough modern prog to find the good stuff.
did you even listen to this?
>>63531865
how is this not progressing anywhere? this is literally new territory
>>
>>63534973

I don't listen to prog metal that much, but there's black metal that I consider to be progressive.

>>63534980

Unless you're calling it "classic prog" every time you talk about that sound, it's a misnomer. If the band is just repeating what someone else did before them, where's the progression in sound?

A bit off-topic, but what exactly denotes the line between "progressive" and "experimental"?
>>
>>63535189
All of them
>>
>>63535399
Progressive, experimental and art rock are kinda used interchangeably nowadays by artists depending on which crowd they would rather cater too. I tend to lump them together for the most part.
>>
>>63535399
technically they mean the same thing but people like to assign additional meanings to prog to fit their narrative. anything that progresses it's genre is prog. anything that tries something new is experimental. it means the same shit.
>>
>>63535189
Most bands are better than Dream Theater. they couldn't write a song that isn't wankery to save their lives. and their vocalist is awful
>>
>>63534225
this shit real good
>>
>>63529758

I never understood this line of thinking, maybe I'm autistic or something.

I don't get how music can be dead or when a band releases a new album "they're back!"

I don't listen to music because of the amount of other people who listen to it, the prog records I like are made and aren't going to change, sure, less people listen to the genre but what has that got to do with me? I'll be here listening to King Crimson whether I am the last man alive who listens to them or if prog suddenly becomes the most important and popular genre
