like miles said, he was basically just doing a more free version of Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters. Head Hunters is a little tighter I guess, Miles has a tendancy to have more freedom in his music I guess.
On the subject of fusion, Big Fun is very much underrated, I know its very much a collection of outtakes but damn what sessions they must have been

What say you in your defense?
Try to grab the Rust edition of this if you can. Easily one of his best albums of the 70's (definitely superior to American Stars 'n Bars, which he released instead of this) and it's got really interesting versions of songs that made it onto later albums. It's also comfy as fuck, best heard when it's been pouring down rain for days on end.
