The influence that metal archives has over the opinions in this general and the metal scene at large are so undeniably ingrained into current discussions, you have to be fucking blind not to recognize it. Metal archives are more or less designing the canonical views of what is metal and what is not. They are some kind of bible for many of the metal heads who grew up with the Internet. They have a huge say on what is regarded as metal and what is not. Now I don't support that, although I still use the site, but I would never say they have no influence here.

That's why it's much easier to build a chart around the labels first instead of adding a bunch of albums and divide them up afterwards. It's much more organized too. Instead of just putting in almost every notable melodeath release from the get-go, you should have originally thought of labels and then think which of which bands fall under what label specifically and choose the most iconic or notable bands for those labels. Everything else that doesn't fit should either be put into a "mixed" label or left out.
I did it when I was making my jap metal chart, instead of just making a chart full of gookshit I built the frame of genres/labels first and then added genres under them.
