Kubelik and Mitropoulos (NY) are my favorites, and they are also pretty good foils to one another. Beinum's (live) is also very good but in pretty poor sound.

too many cuts

worth hearing too, but i feel that Adler's approach worked better in the 3rd

Where do you love where that is possible? We don't all live next door to the Met.
>>
>>63340494
Where I live I don't even have an orchestra anywhere near by me. The closest one that performs on a semi regular basis is hundreds of miles away. The amount of money I would have to spend on tickets and gas combined is too much. Recordings serve me perfectly fine.

i think kubelik is the 2nd fastest behind Scherchen. he takes all the repeats though.

Even the score isn't enough, anon. You have to become one with the superconscious and link minds with the composer themselves.

Sounds like you've just been going to shit performances.

Its true, the best way to fully digest a composers work is to silently read through the score. But most music needs to be experienced as real sound as well as digested in silence.

Being in the same acoustic space as an ensemble or performer just cannot be replicated with recordings. The trick is to go to good quality performances.

have some counter bait:
>implying music would exist without sound.
Its like saying visual art could exist without sight. You can braille, but its not as immediate, and you dont get any colors.

Many scores are orchestrated in ways that reading the score doesn't actually make you aware of the overall effect the composer desired. They must be heard in order to understand why the score says what it does.

Sounds like you're just not smart enough to get everything you need from the score, looks like someone needs to improve their score reading skills.

There are no supercomputer humans that can compute the complex relationships different sounds make when they blend in an acoustic space.
You can look at a score and get some overall ideas of color, but the actual interactions between the instruments dont happen. So at the basic physical level, you're not experiencing the information as the composer intended.

Also you're assuming that the score reflects the composers wishes 100%. What if it doesn't, and certain effects sound strained or incorrect? Not every piece was rehearsed to perfection to iron out any issues with the score.

Composers rarely write for the drawer, and are usually forced to do so. Most want to get their music performed. Usually composers write a piece, rehearse it with an ensemble, then edit their score based on the rehearsals and/or performances. This process happens over and over until a piece produces consistently accurate performances. Of course some pieces never make it to this stage, being too difficult to stage, or too unpopular to get a second performance. Contrary to whatever you might believe, almost no piece of music is perfect.

Attacking an opponents intelligence doesn't really help support your argument by the way.

I love classical music, my parents gave me a keyboard for my birthday yesterday, I have never played an instrument in my life, wat do
>>
>>63344037
play it if you want to. if not don't

I have wanted to play one since I was a child but I can't get a teacher, I guess I'll try to learn something online.

Thank you for your warm words.
