Are the 2010s distinctive from the 2000s?

In a few years will people be able to look back and say "oh this totally is a 2010s song"
>>
In terms of hip hop yes. Rock has been stagnant since 2005 though.
>>
>>63322295
There is nothing distinctive about the 2010's. The only thing this decade will be distinctive for is not being distinctive.
>>
>>63322352
>not true btw
>>
>>63322352
I see how you like to repeat whatever without any base whatsoever.
>>
>>63322358
have you heard current hip hop? sing-rap stuff like young thug and travis scott only exists today
>>
>>63322352
more like pitchfork decided rock is not cool anymore, and we all know why.
>>
>>63322358
Short sighted as fuck.
>>
>>63322358
Are you perhaps, born in the wrong generation?
>>
yeah

seems to be a kind of ethereal rnb thing going on

like James Blake
>>

This

>sing-rap stuff like young thug and travis scott
so shitty artists
>>
>>63322295
2010's : fake bullshit, the show business is dying, underground music's dead, parasitical people who pose as underground are a pile of derivative crap
2000's : a bunch of great releases, something interesting's still going on, mainstream's ok, underground music still holds sway
>>

>In a few years will people be able to look back and say "oh this totally is a 2010s song"
Yes, like with every other decade before.
>>63322358
That's what people thought about the 2000's too. You'd probably remember if you weren't still in high school
>>
yeah people were saying this in the 90s, probably every decade

it's really hard to get a sense of the sound of a decade while you're actually in it
>>
The undeground sure used to be better in the noughties
>>
>>63322383
>more like pitchfork decided rock is not cool anymore, and we all know why.

Every time people say rock is dead it's really this. I listen to a lot of music that gets basically zero publicity.
>>
if anything it's already more distinct than the 00s
>>
>>63323530
This.
>>
>>63322434
Is this it? Is this the new generation of wrong generationers?
>>
>>63322434
>underground music's dead
It's not.

The underground doesn't play shows anymore, you have to be looking for them to find them now.
>>
>>63323563
>implying I didn't grow up in the 00's
I'm a right generationer actually, lol
>>
>>63322295
trap is the 2010's
>>
>>63323628
>trap is the 2010's
I wish trap would die already.
>>
>>63322383
Could you argument?
>>
>>63322383
does this mean that rock music's actually cool
most things pitchfork dislike are good, so
>>
>>63324246
yeah
>>
>>63324246
Pitchfork either follows trends or tries to engineer their own trends. They aren't at the vanguard of what is really going on in music.
>>
>>63322295
i find with each decade there's usually a bit of a crossover with the previous decade, while still having a distinctive sound

there's plenty of 2000s music that wouldn't sound out of place in the 90s, and similarly plenty of 2010s music that wouldn't sound out of place in the 2000s. but both the 2000s and 2010s brought about new trends and sounds that weren't really prevalent in the previous decade
>>
As much as I don't like it, trap rap and pop songs fused with EDM will be remembered as distinctly 2010s. I just hope something better happens with the 2020s (in the mainstream I mean).
>>
>>63324813
I don't actually listen to this stuff.
>>
>>63322358
>>63322295
The 2010s are cyberpunk-lite dystopia dressed up in 'artisanal' photo filters and mass produced authenticity. Everything is fake, everyone knows it. Everything is Ironic, people want to distance themselves from their increasinigly absurd life.
>>
>>63324813
whatever is cool in the underground now will be mainstream in the 2020s
>>
>>63325480

so industrial hip-hop will definitely be a thing, as well vaporwave and whatever you would call artists like OPN and Arca and Dean Blunt.
>>
>>63325117
and also, it seems to me that most people today try to avoid the fact that 90% of human beings outside of big cities live in some sort of post-cultural wasteland
>>
>>63326709
no
>>
2010s have more A E S T H E T I C S
>>
>>63322352
A lot of Indie bands from the 2010s have that whole reverb sound, whereas 2000s Indie bands were a bit more raw sounding, at least in the UK anyway.
