I honestly thinks it's mostly because we know of the classics of yersterday, but have yet to explore the ones tomorrow.
when you listen to an older album you're more likely to listen to a 10/10 "classic" than a 7.5/10 "interesting and discussed a lot a the moment." also, it's harder to disagree with older music since the taste-span becomes smaller when the amount of people who discuss it become fewer.
