All memes aside, which headphones do you guys use? I'm looking into buying a new pair.

Genre of music you listen to would also be helpful.
>>
Still using a pair of HD 280 Pros that I got about 12 years ago when I was a live audio tech. Bassheads hate them for the flat response, but they're very very true, which was what I needed out of them when I bought them. I hate bass-biased headphones anyway, I like hearing what the mastering studio put there. If I want to change it, that's what EQ is for.

I listen to mostly rock, synthpop and jazz. Jazz in particular stands out in them to me because the separation is very good.
>>
I'm currently using Philips Fidelio M1MKII. Decent headphones to go out with. Quite comfortable, doesn't allow much noise, too.

I mainly listen to Classical, vast majority being chamber pieces. About 70% is from 20th century. Hope this helps.

Had these for about a month now easily the best headphones I ever owned. Big natural sounding bass.
>>
I've got a pair of beats and they are amazing. I've never heard music like it!
>>
i listen to a lot of different music so it's not worth listing it all off. lots of rock, electronic, and hip hop though

currently using a pair of v-moda lps for general use at home but i wouldn't recommend them, the sound quality is good and the build quality is alright (although they've kinda fell apart now) but there's better out there for a similar price...

for IEMs (earbuds) i use xiaomi piston 3s, which i DO recommend; they're like ~30 bucks and the quality is almost as good as my v-modas

also, sorry to jack your thread but i'm thinking of getting ATH-M50x's for monitoring, anyone have these? what are they like?

Using the same as this guy.
Im not super versed on headphones, but I can say that they were a yuge step up from the crummy Skullcandies id been using previously.
>>
AKG Q701, got em for a great price on massdrop a while back.

I listen to a lot of electronic stuff, mostly things that could be categorized as IDM and related sub-genres. Friend of mine has also gotten me into some other genres, like post-rock. I'm a pleb though, don't listen to me.
>>
>>63260127
Just in case you're not a fan of classical music, I also often listen to Jazz and Rock, too, not sure I could call it rock but things like Joanna Newsom, the Velvet Underground, I don't know basically what I find fun & interesting, and I think my heaphones are indeed capable of them, too.
>>
>>63260200
Wow, you've been so conditioned by /mu/ and other audio elitist mongs that you automatically assume I'm joking that I like my beats headphones. I wouldn't have bought them, because liked you i believed all the anti-beats agenda that's spouted, but here's the facts, they are the best (and only) headphones I have ever used. End of. don't believe? Okay, but don't Immediately dismiss my belief, because you're the one who misses out because of your ignorance.

>I hate bass-biased headphones anyway, I like hearing what the mastering studio put there

Me too anon. That's why I bought studio monitors just for casual listening. Why would you fuck with how the music was intended to be heard?

My question is though, am I getting a flat response from my ATH-Meme50X's? I love them but I don't know much about them I just saw them recommended everywhere I looked

Sennheiser HD598SE and I listen to mainly alt rock and psych rock/pop. I like the sound for the genres I listen to. I would understand a hip hop fan not liking them very much as they're open back and have little bass. Open back is generally the say to go though.

I fucking love these headphones. Haven't tried much high-tier headphones, but this shit right here is cash as fuck, never heard or felt anything quite like it. They're true, with a slight boost around bass eqs I would say (at least compared to the Sennheisers I've tried). Listening to music on these headphones is a special experience. I feel like there are no details left out. As far as comfortability goes, I've never worn a pair of headphones more comfortable. They don't feel tight at all, and are very light. The only drawback is it doesn't quite work as a headset to use on the move because of size, length of cable and shitty soundproofing. They not only leak a lot, but you can hear a lot of noise around, so they're definately best for homeuse.
For what purpose are your headphones, primarily? Home-use, recording, on the move?
>>
I have the sennheiser 598. They are comfortable as fuck. I wear them all day and it doesn't even feel like i have them on sometimes. They sound good to.
>>
>>63260442
Very little. Select a 2nd, 3rd and 4th headhphone to see how they compare. No speaker has an actually "flat" response.

>>
>>63260136

No headphones will be completely flat and that's a good thing. You need that bass boost or else the bass will sound weak and not lifelike.

pretty much same as >>63260482 but cheaper, in my experience these ones block noise really well except for wind just because of the size.
Particularly impressive low bass response, and like the other guy said, it really brings out the details, I actually take them off and put on cheaper headphones for listening to spotify our youtube just because it highlights the low bitrate so painfully.

I mainly listen to prog and psychedelic rock

I've noticed after looking at tons of headphone graphs, many many headphones that have a decent bass response have a dip around 80hz, the DT770 shows this very obviously. Does anyone know why? I have a hard time googling the question.
>>
>>63260200
i have the m50 headphones. Don't hesitate to buy them, they're detailed with rich, full bass.

I use AKG k240.

I listen to lots of different types of music but mostly rock.

I produce and record music, mostly hiphop, and am studying sound recording engineering.

I use Audio technica ATH-M50x and Sony MDR 7506.

The Sonys are industry standard for honest sounding headphones.

If i weren't obsessed with clear sound I'd use beats by dre desu but i hate the bass boost. Great listening headphones

I need good headphones (mic preferred as well) for computer and phone use. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile (I still have a few albums in 128kbps and very few lossless), but I want the best I can get. I listen to jazz, fusion, latin, and flamenco.

However, I am a massive poorfag, so it would be nice if I can they are commonly sold used on ebay under $70. Thanks.

I've got a pair of ATH-M50, the premier meme headphones.

Impedance alone doesn't mean shit, you also have to take driver efficiency into account. High impedance headphones are mostly used in a studio environment because lots of professional gear has a high output impedance (for historical reasons). The problem is that high impedance limits current, which makes low power devices, like mobile phones, less desirable as sources because they simply don't get loud enough. That's why you usually hear things like high impedance headphones needing amplification.
