Crescendocore refers to a niche microgenre of post-rock groups that take extreme influence from GYBE and Mogwai. They generally focus more on repetitive and quite derivative crescendoes and builds, rather than texture and atmosphere. As such I say it's pushing it to call them Post-rock.

An album is only as pretentious as the listener makes it out to be, if you think an album is pretentious it's merely because you are corelating your silly misconceptions with said album. Very few artists can release albums on a yearly basis. I'd have a hard time naming more than 5 off the top of my head.
Remember, record sales is a total tally. He may not have ever been extremely ridiculously popular but he's been around for half a decade. I'd say about 3-5 million would be a fair estimate.

Tago Mago goes on way too long for me but the rest of their work is great and never loses its punch. Like Future Days is such a perfect blend of pop melody and ambient music (even funk to some degree) and its short enough to keep its punch and not get old.
Swans just fucking tries too hard. They try too hard to be gritty, try too hard to have these long repetitive albums and just I don't know how you can reasonably expect most people to sit through that for like an hour and half or something. If anything I'd look on Swans more favourably if they cut down the time of their albums.
