>>
>>63200462
sweet guitar chops that are somehow memorable?
>>
>>63200462
country is really good, why don't you like it
also "amercan primitivism" is a complete journalist meme that you probably shouldn't bring up around anyone you want to be taken seriously by because it screams "i learned everything i know about music through wikipedia"
>>
>>63200462
What country have you listened to

sounds like not much
>>
>american primitivism
>good
>country
>complete garbage
american primitivism is pure wank outside of a few albums. country music at least tries to do more than "LOOK AT MY SWEET FINGERPICKING BRO"
>>
There are good examples of country, but the genre suffers greatly from being heavily commodified.

Country used to be a considered a wide variety of folk music. In the late 50s and early 60s the music industry decided to capitalize on this disparate group whose listener base was not interested in the commercial presentation of "folk" (that is, the leftist, progressive protest folk that was popular), and so gathered these genres into two categories: Country (southeastern folk, previously referred to as hillbilly music) and Western (southwestern folk, which included the cowboy ballad).

Eventually western lost its pull except in regional niches, and was eventually marginalized by the increasingly homogeneous commercial presentation of "country", which was further and further streamlined to be sold to its listener base, until you got the country pop of the present day.

poseur
>>
>>63200462

because you're a fucking chump "urban progressive" who wants the ethos of country without the grit and realist tones of it
>>

All music and art is masturbation. Learn to accept that and then we can actually have conversation about the finer points.

>I can summarize a genre! That means it's too simple for me!

Superior american primitivism album coming through.

Country is a broad-ass genre that happens yo include mounds of shit, where American Promitivism (if you can even call it a genre, its really more of a movement) pretty much only includes the people signed onto Takoma records, that guy from Pelt, and a few contemporary bandcamp kids.

So to answer your question, its exclusion. A tightly knit group of guys making pretty much the same music has less variation in quality then something as broad as "country"

Also curious why you chose country, when the best comparison would probably be delta blues or free folk
>>
>>63200462
probably because A.P. is far more rooted into delta blues.

country music in the past 10 years or so is as good as its been since the early 70s though

how is it that /mu/ is so fucking pleb and knows nothing about anything other than mainstream garbage
>>
>>63202689
because no one on /mu/ wants to discover new music in their own, they want it presented to them on a nice neat chart
>>
>>63202689
Popular country music? It's never even been close to what it was in the 70s and 80s.

Because a lot of great instrumental music is ruined by a shitty vocalist/message.

American primitivism is indeed quite fantastic, especially OP album and some artists still making music inspired by it.

Old Boots, New Dirt by Jason Aldean. Its avant-country.

>American Primativism

American Primitive Guitar is a music genre which was first originated by John Fahey in the late 1950s/early 1960s.
