Dillinja was always one of the more popular guys. It's weird because half of the list looks like it was made by someone who actually knows what they are on about and half the list looks they got it off Beatport/Juno's most played or some shit.

this so much

I love that old school, lush analog synth chord sound. Especially when juxtaposed with crazy, rough breaks and rolling basslines and such.

That sound right there is what I view as the quintessential jungle sound.

And then when you hear those pads pitched up or down in a mix, broadcast through radio, recorded onto cassette, and then recorded with portable mics digitally onto mp3, it gives it a sort of unique retro-futuristic sound that can't be imitated imo.

>>
>>63122675
Such a fucking alchemical style: you have total fire descending through the breaks, these soothing dissolute washes counterbalancing this like a soothing rain, airy vistas emerging before your eyes, and then below this, this very gritty, active world of action and materiality in the bass and samples.

>>63123768
As for the alchemy comment... I actually really think the genre is distinctive in how it so cleanly separates such polarized elements but then finds this perfectly-poised and explosive balance. So these terms aren't something that means anything for you, cool, but they do for me. But no offense taken.

>>
>>63124574
Dubstep was such a downgrade.

And I can kind of appreciate Grime, but it's lacking a drug experience flow or something that rave genres had.
>>
>>63124783
Yeah, I like dubstep and grime for sure, but they aren't on the same level as other genres in the "hardcore continuum" so to speak. The last true "rave" genre was honestly probably garage (which of course includes early grime and dubstep tunes, but those later spawned into their own fully fledged genres). Dubstep and grime were probably the last fully fledged "continuum" genres themselves aside from maybe footwork. Nowadays you can hardly classify anything into tangible genres or scenes or movements anymore since every producer is seemingly moving in a thousand different musical directions at once.

>>
>>63124964

>>
>>63124851
The omnidirectional flow kind of reminds me of how electronic and dance music evolution would adopt innovations from across the board in its emergence though... industrial sounds from EBM, breaks from Hip Hop, mentasms from R&S artists, piano riffs from Italo House, Techno drawing from House and Acid and Kraftwerk, old Electrofunk and 80s Soul bleeding into Drum n Bass for certain refrains.

And yet, yeah, electronic genres gelled more (and I've been very for this idea lately - championing the vernacular... maintaining some aesthetic distinction is also, paradoxically, part of the winning formula... there has to be a line drawn, a limit to ingredients... a global aesthetic/culture is bland, yet cross-pollination, to an extent that it doesn't dissolve all formal difference, is key too).)

>>63124964

>>63125096

>>
>>63124896
newer footwork is definitely hardcore continuum-related at this point thanks to the likes of planet mu, hyperdub, et al

Even originators like Spinn and Rashad were putting dread basses and jungle breaks in their tracks and had Danny Brown (an avowed Grime and garage enthusiast btw) MC on a track.
>>
>>63125273
I would say what was being referred to as said continuum was evolving directly from previous scenes, though. it didn't even refer to the parallel Hardcore styles like Happy, but more to mostly London/Bristol-centric scenes that came from breakbeat hardcore and jungle and grew out organically from that.
>>
hey boys, could i get some recommendations of haunting/atmospheric dub techno with vocal sampling? anything come to mind?

Shut the fuck up. You faggots will say anything to not give Americans credit for genres they invented
>>
>>63125787
Yeah, but it's America's fault for rejecting house and techno for so long, only to embrace it in watered-down commercialized EDM form.

That said, the current footwork scene arguably trumps whatever fragmented "uk bass" scene that's clinging on to life support here.

While the US dominated most of the 80s, UK innovations in dance music began to equal the US in '88 and surpass them in '91, continuing until the start of the 10s, where I would say both countries are on more or less equal footing. Perhaps the pendulum will swing back in the partners' territory once more.
