Newer Slipknot is a bit soft and poppy but it really felt like old Slipknot didn't give a shit and just jammed out some great catchy metal tunes and they had enough edgy dark shit to get some respect even from Slayer/Metallica fans

That album has maybe 1 or 2 genuine nu metal songs. The rest of the songs have vague elements of it but are probably better described as funk metal. The also have a hip hop influence but not really in the same way Limp Bizkit do.

Yeah but that's how it was back in the day, man. Every band that put out an album in that period was considered Nu-metal. Which is exactly why Pantera released The Great Southern Trendkill. They went heavier because everyone was doing rap metal. Made for one of the dopest albums of the 90s.
