When every vaporwave producer quits producing so they can dedicate their lives to studying chess, you're going to feel reeeaal stupid
>>
>>62625788
The paintings weren't the revolutionary things he did though, most of them were cubism and modernism well past either of those were cool. Reducing vaporwave (or plunderphonics in general) like that is ez b8

this comment shows how out of touch you are with contemporary art

and to answer the OP's question: death grips
>>
>>62625962
Étant donnés is one of his best works and is impressive in terms of craftsmanship.
>>
Well wasn't this work (Fountain by Marcel Duchamp) a key contributor to the Dada movement?

Because if that's the case then Animal Collective obviously.
>>
>>62625521
Vaporwave is clearly a direct sucessor of Warhol
>>
While it would be easy to answer with some form of plunderphonics (under which vaporwave primarily falls), that genre is really more the readymade ethic as an artform, and not with Duchamp's original intentions.

>>62625788
While I agree vaporwave isn't really an accurate equivalent, I think a loose parallel might be found in Oneohtrix Point Never. However, Eccojams isn't on the same level as Fountain in terms of a statement.

I think purely as a parallel to the statement, I think Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music could serve as an equivalent. An established artist explicitly taking the piss out of the scene, presenting a collection of essentially auditory 'trash' in a conventional exhibition of an artistic product.
>>
>>62626121
No, you're still completely off base. The actual answer is undeniably >>62625523 but all you fuckheads know about is /mu/core.
>>
>>62626110
Animal Collective, like many psychedelic groups, is far more in line with surrealism than they are dadaism.

An example of dadaist music would be Trout Mask Replica, I think.

>>62626113
Except Warhol embraced the commercialization of his work, whereas vaporwave is often presented with a cynical approach. I do think vaporwave is an apt parallel to pop art as a whole, however.
>>
It reminds me of the recent animal collective single....
FloriDADA
>>
>>62625788
you'd be kidding yourself if you were to deny the connection, vaporwave draws heavily on dadaist forms and expressions and certain 'principles' if you can call them that.

It's a century long legacy that is increasingly relevant as things in our world become so fucked up

but while drawing from dada it is still very removed from it and takes in other influences from popart especially

Truly it's a rebuttal against the idea that minimalism is the end all be all of art but thats another story all together...

>>62625884
:^) oh but it was certainly the impressionists that were the prime cause of this cascade into degeneracy!!

>>62625910
Warhol was not a hack, he was a businessman, and a very good one at that.

>>62625940
see every record made for the sole purpose of fulfilling a contractual obligation

>>62626100
craftsmanship has fuck all to do with artistry
>>

>The musical equivalent of this piece of art is this multimedia art movement

Fluxus is the musical equivalent of fluxus, fluxus is the visual art equivalent of fluxus.

That's one of its core tenets.
>>
>>62626113
vaporwave as an idea couldve made on ok album but the mini genre it produced or more like internet socialite gathering of talentless hacks regurgitating the same shitty ideas is as if a bunch of people said wah thats awesome im gonna put toilets i galleries too. So vaporwave is a collection made soley of toilets in galleries in 2011.
>>
>>62626275
>craftsmanship has fuck all to do with artistry
Since that wasn't my point, what is your point?
>>
>>62626293
Fluxus music is the most closely related music to Duchamp's work. Duchamp's work was a main inspiration for the Fluxus movement, which included numerous musicians. I'm sorry that the wikipedia article doesn't exclusively talk about music; I thought you'd have the attention span to scroll and read through the music-related parts. Vaporwave and plunderphonics are completely unrelated to any of these art movements.

So you agree with me fluxus is the musical equivalent of fluxus, given that fluxus incorporated music alongside visual and performance art as part of its multimedia focus?

Glad we could agree.

impressionism was still art produced with technical skill and vision. Even cubism was to an extent. Dadaism was unmitigated trash.
>>
>>62626370
Don't take responsibility for posts that aren't yours. You are just one of many people in this thread who are mixing all of these movements in one generic clutch of tentatively related artists.
>>
>>62626403
Fluxus was essentially neo-dada, so if dadaist art has any "equivalent," it's that. You're aware that there is Fluxus music that's solely music recordings with no accompaniment that you can listen to right now, right?
>>
>>62626256
I agree, however I think earlier AnCo (pre-CHz) is more surreal. CHz and PW are slightly more Dada imo.
>>
>>62626410
dada replaced technical skill and vision with conceptual skill and vision.

you don't need to know how to paint or sculpt you just need to know what to select and how to arrange it in a way that is interesting to viewers.

Cunts like you are the reason anti-art happened. By putting art on a pedestal like that, you actually make it meaningless beyond "wow I admire the effort and time that went into that! moving on now."
