Loyola New Orleans.

More than a few shitty rappers, a mediocre band named after a major New Orleans street, and a bunch of singer-songwriters. There are a few pretty cool bands though.

do you like paying way too much cash for shitty housing? Even if I didn't live with my parents, rent off campus is pretty cheap around here. 'Course unless you're near a bus stop you'd need a car.
>>
Since there's so many uofags here, anyone know any good concerts or anything coming up? I haven't been to anything since NMH except a couple classical ones, and I'm itching to go see something, but don't really know where anything good would be.

Anco is coming to portland? Damn, I'd go but I really don't like making the drive (especially cause I always go to concerts on dissociatives, and I can't drive for like 12hr after that, heh).

I was gonna see strfkr last time they came, but they sold out then too. No luck for me. And damn, com truise too, he actually ain't bad.

i'm pretty autist when it comes to social situations so the first month i was here i basically just sat in my room and never really branched out
thankfully one day i decided i fucking hated my roommate (was a guy from my high school, got him randomly, my luck right?) and proceeded to switch to a more "social" dorm
we have little living rooms so i would just go outside and talk to people every single day and try not to sit in my room 24/7
it eventually worked i guess

college gives you virtually all the time you could ask for to explore your interests and meet people that share those interests.

after college it becomes hundreds of times harder to make time for yourself and meet people. i'm sorry you had to find this out now
>>
>>62515085
oh
>>
>>62514877
Try sitting next to people in your classes and saying hi or something. And if your major has classes with lab or discussion sections, it makes it a bit easier, ask questions or make comments about the lab or topic with people and you can start off a conversation pretty easily. I haven't really made any close friends yet, but I know people's names and go to study with them now and then and shit at least, and I'm extremely spergy and live off campus.

have fun with your bullshit degree. All I do is work.

Honestly, don't give a fuck about people in college. 90 percent of the time you'll never see them again. Have a close group of friends and stick with them. Discover yourself. This is prime time for figuring out who you really want to be. Explore hobbies and try new things and people with follow.

UIUC here.

Just google it and follow the application directions. If you wanna be a DJ you'll prolly have to wait until Spring term scheduling to get a show. You have to do late night DJ training (1am-ish) and then shadow and then cover spots for a little bit before you can host on your own too. The application is really generic and the big question we would look at is a list of 100 artists the DJ would consider playing on their show. If you get accepted as a DJ you're gonna have to get fill out some shit to allow your show to play non-typical stuff (i.e. not stuff not expected to be on rotation/CMJ shill shit) so you'll have to do that for your specialty show

sorry that is a nightmare grammatically i'm a little drunk atm

>>62516827

>>62516615

also on your application put all your jap funk as your top 100 artists cause when we would go through them we liked specialty niche shows a lot

UT Austin

SXSW, ACL, lots of live shows every night many genres. It's pretty good
>>
>>62516715

Downtown, Cozmic Pizza actually brings in a lot of cool bands, saw Mac DeMarco and Tera Melos and such there, but a lot of local bands play there too. Wandering Goat usually has a lot of local shows going on. Obviously McDonald Theatre and WOW Hall have a lot going on most of the time
>>
Any wahoos?
And I honestly have no idea what the music scene is here in cville
>>
Where my Maryland bros at?

Goucher college here, a couple of shitty rappers, some indie bullshit you'd expect at a small liberal arts school, and that's pretty much it.

I would die if I could find some people to start a sludge or screamo band.
>>
>>62516893
>>62516827
Thanks m8. So I just list my 100 favorite artists and throw in some niche ones and try and aim for a specific genre/specialty show?

If I ran a show I'd probably play a lot of future funk/Japanese experimental stuff/shoegaze/atmospheric kinda shit but I'd like to also mix it up once in a while.
>>
Adding on tho that Baltimore itself has a pretty decent music scene
>>
>>62517147
>future funk
boo
just play the original tracks
>>
>>62517147
good luck man, i applied last term and they didnt get back to me until this term and they made me give them an example setlist of what id do on air, still waiting. my friend got on relatively quickly when he applied though so who knows, i thought my music taste was good though wtf
>>
>>62517147

yeah that's what I would do, the guy who has my old gig might select DJ's differently though
>>
>>62517003
I am, first-year so idk much either.
>>
>>62517184
Don't worry I prefer the original shit anyway but there's a few non-hack future funk songs here and there. I'd play a lot of city pop.

>>62517214
Damn. I'm kinda worried that I'll have no idea what to play after a while or wtf I'm going to say on air. I did public speaking classes and shit like that in HS tho so that'll probably help. Good luck to you too dude.
>>
>>62515011

>>62516066
Ayy, just got an acceptance letter from them. So far I've only gotten 36k in merit scholarships so I'm going to hold out for better offers from other schools. Would you recommend going here? I've spent a lot of time in Portland but I've never been down to Eugene.
>>
>>62519229
To clear things up I'm from out of state so 9k a year off of 45k isn't much, if I get rejected from my other schools I might defer a year to live with some friends in portland to qualify for instate tuition
>>
Went to Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) in Portland, Oregon.
How do you think the fucking music scene was...?
Everyone was a fucking try-hard hipster shit-bag. One kid literally said, and I quote; "the Unicorns are by far the greatest rock band ever. And I hope to one day write as meaningful and complex music as Who Will Cut Our Hair..."

God, I hated that aspect of school. But I did meet this one really fucking cute girl who wore all black and played acoustic covers of Cursive songs at a bar we both went to. She was cool.
