what are your favorite BOSS pedals /mu/?
>inb4 none of them

>>62477686
Boss sucks. Got some of their pedals (OS2, DS2, MT2 and some stuff i sold and i cant remember). Some of them sound pretty good (DS1/2, OS2) but only if the amp fits the sound. On my new Amp all the Boss pedals sound like shit, but favorite is still the OS2 on my older amps

>>62477576
i need to make a general "battle tune" for my text RPG and everything i make sounds either too minor or too major, and not rock and roll enough. i need something that's high energy but that you could listen to for an hour on end without going insane. can anyone give me a chord progression?

Hello pickers--

I'm getting a gretsch jim dandy modified to play left handed currently. I asked for help with this in the last few threads but got zero responses. I will post results soon because I know there is another southpaw anon out there wondering if it could be done.

struggles with definition. Otherwise sounds pretty good. Try playing less strings each chord, especially during the first half or so of the song. Triplets were pretty obnoxious. You fell back into the rhythm when you couldn't think of what to play next for your fill when you should have directly connected instead a few times. also way too many bends up.

What's the difference between a Gibson TOM and a normal hardtail with individual saddles?

Can a TOM go to 1.5 mm action? I think setting action on TOM is easier since you just need to adjust two screws isn't it.
>>
>>62487757
https://clyp.it/qip2ort0
>>
>>62487846
generally a tom can adjust well beyond playable and unplayable. So yeah 1.5 is doable. It is easier to adjust a TOM but you can't do an much. Most people don't want to do anything other than match tgd fretboard radius though. For bass it sucks but for guitar it's actually really nice.

>>
im looking at a surf green squier affinity and the starting bid is 150 new zealand dollaroos
is this a good first guitar?
how high should i bid before it doesn't become worth it?
>>
Oh and, what's the difference between like, say the Gibson Les Paul STANDARDâ„¢ and, say a Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded?

Is it all in the difference of hardware and aesthetics? Are they all build by the same guy in the same factory? Or do they get John MacKenzie here to build the Standard and Juan Carlos to build the Faded?
>>
>>62488065
>bass really broadens your horizons, eh?
yea buddy. i know what you mean. when i picked up drums i realized how little i payed attention to all the lits bits of drumming and how it fit into the song
>>
>>62488109
they I thr same factory but they could have different pickups. If they have different pickups Gibson will say so. same for things like radius and neck shdpe. honestly guvsin actually lists all this shit so knowing what you're buying is the be thing you can't fault Gibson for.
>>
>>62488088
affi city I'd not a good first guitar; don't bid. I recommend with plenty of bias my first electric: an sx furrian. as far as tone goes this thing destroys.
>>
>>62488109
They're all built by highly trained cnc desu
>>
>>62488155

So you are saying the main difference between a 700 dollar Gibson and a 3000 one is just MUH HONEY BURST and bindings? Oh maybe the 3000 has a laminated neck.

What..
>>
>>62488249
don't forget random specs that match older guitars that they don't use on current models because they have improved the designs.
>>
>>62488126
if you like drums you'll shit when you hear "fucking werewolf asso," especially live. First band I've heard where the drums carry the songs hard. Seriously the drums are basically in charge of the dynamics entirely for this band. They change up so much that if you don't pay attention to them you're mission g out on 90% of the song.

Also:
>a drummer in /gg/? join muh band!
>>
>>62486578
Charvel's seems like better value
and you could literally buy an 80s usa kramer and have it refreted for that tbqh
>>
>>62488310
>a drummer in /gg/? join muh band!
honestly, you can always be in a band if you have a car and play drums. i never get to play guitar anymore lol.
>>
>>62488249
I'm not trying yo be controversial, this really is the difference. Yeah. it doesn't msk a whole ton of sense, but it's a company this mainstream, and around around since the 50s or whenever. Like Microsoft or other huge companies that dominate their field, not all logic applies.
>>
>>62488249
Do you realize how much time the binding takes compared to everything else?
>>
What would be the best guitar to make shoegazy drone? Here's an example of the kind of sound I'm going for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCI8exp5JHc
Also any pedal suggestions would be greatly appreciated
>>
>>62488442

Not really but I know its extremely intensive and time consuming. I hate how it looks though, I prefer the raw look of an unbound fretboard.
>>
>>62488506
really any guitar and cheap rack reverbs galore
>>
>>62488442
time yeah, but not labor. idk, when you have prices like Gibson's, its a bit silly to reason with them. Guitars don't cost that much to produce, and if they do Gibson is fucking something up. tbqh I hope I'm not being too much of an asshole for saying this. Gibson has established it's value more than any other brand and it exploits this. That isn't a terrible thing to say, is it? Nothing wrong with that really. Just the market at work.
>>
>>62488543
But gibson actually has entry level usa models unlike fender
>>
>>62488506
honestly any guitar that weighs more than 10 pounds.
I'm not being sarcastic btw. Weight is the most important factor when it comes to sustain and sustain is helpful for shoegaze.

Have you tried adjusting the height of your neck pickup? That was my only complaint with the factory setup.

Perhaps covers is the wrong term. Learning songs that you didn't make is what I meant. I don't know about you, but whenever I learn a song it's never a 100% reproduction by the end, especially when the original song wasn't written for guitar.

You can, its just harder because you usualy dont have as many ways to adjust those.

An electric you can raise and lower each string individually at the bridge, for example.

Also electrics typically use lighter strings so there is not as much bowing on the neck, you can adjust that on an electric but not on all acoustics/classical, so its doubly potentially negative there.

Ive got some small body acoustics with lighter strings that play just like an electric.

I realized why he is so good. In earlier performances he plays like most people do, staying safely within what he is capable of doing well with out risk. But later on in his career, he stopped playing music, he began to channel it, and was no longer limited by the need to hide the extents of his skill, he did his limit and messed up sometimes or sounded like crap sometimes, but he didn't even care, because he wasnt playing music to us, he was showing it to us.

i think the easiest way to do this is buy a expression pedal, replace the pot with a self built theremin and then hook that up to the pot that controls the pitch on your pitch shifter pedal.

its a shitton of work especially if you have no experience, and will eventually sound no different from using your foot to control a foot pedal

moog has a theremin-like instrument that can use midi

>>
>>62494497
the more i look into this the less i understand.

but take a look at this >>62494626 and maybe midi is the right way to go.

This is going to be a lot of work for something that can really be made easier by doing something else.

If you want to
>"control it with my arm while using a note sustainer of some sort, as such a Wahwah styled pedal would make things more cumbersome."
you should maybe look into sustainer pickups made by hernandez (i think). They replce your need for a note sustainer bc its build in, frees up your hand. That way you really just play guitar like normal and the expression pedal, operated by your foot, shouldnt be too cumbersome

noob question I'm practising basic pentatonic scales right now and transitioning from A string to high E string feels awkward on the pinky. Do I let the pinky touch the other strings or do I have to make a big arch over the other strings?
>>
>>62494885
thanks
>>
>>62494928
not entirely sure what you mean, but maybe this helps:

-play with as little effort as possible unless there are notes that should be heard, but you arent hearing.

does this help??
>>
>>62478157
If you're going for JRPG style, do some high tempo thing with a driving 8th note bass rhythm thing with guitars playing melodies over it. Maybe do the Iron Maiden thing and do
E5 > C5 > D5

or E5 > B5 > C5 > D5

with melodies on top.

If you want to jazz it up a bit, as many Japanese composers seem wont to do, throw in some 2 5 1's or some shit. idk
>>
>>62495026
kinda. It just that going to that part of the scale is a bit sloppy while I could play the other strings at a reasonable tempo.
>>
>>62495138
this is good advice

>>62495200
btw when you say high E do you mean the notes are high relative to pitch or the string is high relative to the ground?
>>
>>62495252
The thickest string
>>
>>62495340
oh okay.

If its really gets in your way when playing maybe play that specific note on the A string.

For now it might work to every now and then start of your practice routine with a pinky exercise. Make sure the palm of you hand is cleared from the neck to give you enough clearance, play real slow so that every move is a conscious one.

and the high E string is usually the thinnest one ;)
>>

You mean the low E string. You can let the pinky rest against the other strings, and often it is desirable to do so, as it mutes the strings it's resting against.

I've already planned on getting the Fernades, it's basically part 2 of this rather complicated system,
>>
>>62496094
dude, a digitech whammy does that, start with that bc to make a hand operated one is gonna give you such a headache
>>
>>62496413
Is it really going to be a pain in the ass to turn the Whammy's wah-style to a proximity based detector or will it be fairly easy?
>>
>>62496413

Speaking of the DigiTech whammy, does transit well with small range, like maybe 2 cents up?
>>
>>62496472
okay so i only have a limited understanding so i might be wrong, but im looking at it like this:

-the pedal on the whammy operates a pot. A pot is a variable resistance, so your limiting a signal going thru it. So your resistance is somewhere between 0 (fully open) and 500 Kohms (guessing reistance bc i dont have an open whammy and im not good enough at reading schematics that arent specifically for guitarists)

the theremin outputs a weak signal.

I dont know how to convert the signal into a resistance. So im stumped right there, maybe another anon knows more than me and can help.... but at this point thats the sticking point for me.

>>62496475
i dont know for sure and i cant find this info anywhere

that being said, i used to have a digitech multi effect pedal and i remember trying out the whammy on a very small range (i think it was a major second) and i couldnt hear the steps when using the pedal, the increments were too small for me to hear. No idea how that translates to cents bc ive never really looked into it in that much detail

There's very few people who play Les Pauls who want to be original. They want to emulate their favorite guitarists who played LPs (back when Gibson wasn't complete shit) and they think that if they spend $4500 then they'll automatically sound like Clapton, Page, etc.
