just wanted to say that In a Silent Way has one of my favorite album covers of all time. there's nothing spectacular about it but it just really works.
Even though it's not p4k core this album got me into music and really sets a mood. It has some amazing songs and manages to be really somber yet full at the same time.

the worst part is, you can't go anywhere else in Oldfield's discography if you want more like this. Hersest Ridge is also folky and pastoral, but carries a lot less emotional weight. Incantations has some really intensely arranged moments, but relies way too heavily on repetition, Tublar Bells is a lot more disjoined and naive, Amarok has a lot of African music influence but is a one big fuck you towards Virgin Records in the grand scheme of things, and the poppier albums, while also having some instrumentals, never carried the same weight.
If you want to listen to some more Oldfield though, listen to the rest of his first four albums (Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Incantations), get his best pop album (Five Miles Out) and Amarok. Just now that none of them will be such intense and essential a listen as Ommadawn, unfortunately.
