Literally found this in the dollar bin and it's slowly becoming one of my favourite albums
>>
Bowie's 90s stuff is really underrated.

>>62013059
THIS. That cover art is so unfortunate... makes it look like some shitty bro country album. I thought it was just a meme for the longest time.
>>
>>62013009
I've listened to the Berlin trilogy and Station to Station but not this album. What's it like?

I was expecting it to be mediocre or cringeworthy (Yes has a dated sound IMO) but what I got was an angel's orgasm
>>
>>62013272
Somewhere between Berlin and Let's Dance, but also Robert Fripp is on it
>>
>>62013272
Berlin but more new wave and poppy. has him screaming IT'S NO GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME while some japanese chick rambles in the background. pretty gud
>>
>>62013272
>>62013299
This, plus a Japanese aesthetic. It's very good.

The opposite for me. Thought it'd rule but I was bored silly.

Is Jason Aldean for real? I want to hear the truth
>>
>>62013355
Yes. It's classic country music in the vein of Johnny Cash or Hank Williams, and it has some of the best lyricism I've heard in any genre. It's slow, depressive stuff. His label forced him to use that terrible cover in an attempt to increase his mainstream appeal, which is quite amusing as the average bro who wants to chill to some pop-country would be horribly put off by Aldean's dark and melancholic style.

>going through Genesis' discography
>3.40 rating on RYM

What the fuck? Are people over there that butthurt about prog bands turning pop during the 80s? Even so, this album is prog pop, it blends their earlier sound with pop tendencies surprisingly well. Fuck me if this isn't one of the better albums released by a prog rock band during the early 80s.

I guess Night Thoughts would count too, the two tracks released for radio beforehand felt too radio-friendly at first but the rest of the album more than made up for it.

heroes.
in spite of being stupidly into bowie for a long time - relatively speaking - this was the album which i just didn't get the hype for. i now consider it his best album, along with lodger, scary monsters and stationtostation of course.
>>62013272
new wavey, grotesque theatre-of-the-absurd pop.
>>62013801
true. what burns and american don are good albums nonetheless, but for respect is definitely more aggressive.

Agreed. Love the Wedding and the Wedding Song.

Buddha Of Suburbia is brilliant as well.

IMO, this is tied with Station to Station for Bowie's best album.

Fell for the meme and listened to 4 songs
At times it felt like Brand New crossed with pop-country
Emo-try?

The cover looked so uninviting and the track lenghts made it worse. I couldn't believe them.

That was 6 years ago. I love it.
>>
>>62016852
It's not "emo" just because it discusses dark subjects, you dipshit. I bet you'd call Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake emo too.
>>
>>62016124
2nd this
>>
>>62016893
I specifically chose Brand New because of the instrumentation style not the lyricism
Seriously that guitarist on some songs is like 2000s alt/emo i.e. Brand New
>>
>>62016970
Oh, ok. I've never listened to Brand New, so I assumed you were just making a shallow comment on the lyrics. I quite liked the guitar style. It's an interesting twist on typical country instrumentation.

I was surprised by it as well, everyone hypes up Low but I thought it was dull and bad when I listened to it so I was expecting the same from Heroes. I was gratefully proven wrong.
>>
>>62016999
what's the best song on old boots new dirt?
>>
>>62016891

It works a lot better as a full album. There's a lot of progression and self referentiality throughout.
>>
>>62017272
>It works a lot better as a full album
I'm not sure I want to invest 45mins into the Jason Aldean meme
>>
>>62016124
Heathen and everything after it is essential Bowie in my opinion.

Also I'd say Outside and Black Tie White Noise are worth a listen as well.

>>62017066
Low is much better in my opinion. Every song on side 1 has a perfect hook, and side 2 has better electronic experiments than the ones on Heroes.

I like both, but Low is still a much better record for me.

>>62013009
This, and about half of Bowie's discography that I hadn't listened to. Especially>>62013108
and Heathen.
