This album is nearly 15 years old. Who else here loves it?

What a coincidence, 15 is the age at which one typically grows out of the shins

The Shins really are some of the most talented songwriters around. Their first two albums are really quite charming, with plainspoken surrealist lyrics a little comparable to Vampire Weekend but obviously much more interesting.

I'd argue that the Shins' early work laid the groundwork, for better or for worse, for Local Natives, Vampire Weekend, Bombay Bicycle Club, and later "indie rock" pop groups who use abstract lyrics over static rock-like instrumentals.

Chutes Too Narrow is better tho

I just can't wait for their next album. James is hinting at the next Shins album in their instagram

This album has a special place in my heart. Caring is Creepy, New Slang... Aw, man. When it comes on I'm an angsty teen all over again. Unlike a lot of other albums I might've listened to during my adolescence, this one doesn't make me cringe, though. This album, and a few others, marked the point in my life when my tastes in music began to diverge from the mainstream.

Fuck, gonna go listen to it now. Thanks for the reminder, OP.

Who knows. The Shins, as we know them, don't really exist anymore.
