I want to produce instrumentals similar to death grips. I have ableton, serum, and a bunch of samples for drum kits, am I on the right track?
>>
>>61984086
Now all you need is drugs
>>
Listen to them alot and just think about the production, and then listen to another sound that you like and do the same thing, incorporate both and make some cool stuff

you can make any music out of anything dude.
analog synths would help though, if you're going for that industrial sound
>>
>>61984123
What are some cool analogs I can use? Serum has the main synths I've been using
>>
I want to produce too but I don't know much about music theory

I don't know much about analogues honestly but the virtual korg ms-20 is what I use when I want a "warm" or "classic" sound
>>
>>61984216
Thanks just found a download for that synth
>>
Sample bjork
>>
>>61984086
why? everybody will just shit on you for copying them
>>
>>61984182
It's easy as shit dude
>>
>>61984436
I want to use them as an influence but with more of a hip hop sound I just like their production approach
>>
You should use Granulator
>>
Obviously real drums are a big part of the Grips sound, it'll be near impossible to totally replicate that with samples but if you put a lot of focus into the detail of the drums you can get fairly close. Apart from that, do a lot of sampling (both of already recorded sound sources and 'junk' instruments/sounds you make yourself).

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Olm9kkhLmgk for an example

whaddup briek
Real artists use FL studio ;-^)
>>
>>61984782
That's crazy how they sampled a printer
>>
>>61984782
THIS is why I fucking love this band. Sample wizards
>>
>>61984782
My favorite sample is MC Ride sneezing from "Have a Sad Cum BB". Serena Williams's grunt in "System Blower" is a close second.
>>
>>61986095
Oh wow I had no idea that was a sneeze. That makes it even funnier
>>
>>61986095
I'm gonna midi my farts
>>
>>61984782
Kek fucking Death Grips

>>61986095
Where in Have A Sad Cum BB is the sample?
>>
>>61986095
I really like the accelerating sample they turned into a synth for Hustle Bones
>>
don't do it
>>
>>61986219
It first appears at 0:04 before the drums kick in, and then goes on throughout the song

step 1: rethink your life
step 2: choose if you still want to continue with this
step 2.5: choose yes or no
step three: if yes, kill yourself. if no, prevent yourself from further memeing

it helps after a while everything you make sounds the same because you dont know shit about progressions or keys and scales. i used to think it didnt matter too, but it helps a lot during the writing process instead of fiddling around or hoping for some inspiration of where to take the song, you have some ground rules and a general idea of what works or where you can go with the song.
>>
>>61985642
actually everyone old enough to have heard a printer creak along wanted to sample it.
