10.0 from Pitchfork that's why
I like it a lot, Yeezus used to be my favourite but it changed to this. Musically, I like most of the tracks, some are definitely weak (So Appalled, Hell of a Life). The production is very good, lyrically the album has some of Kanye's best such as Gorgeous, but as an album it fits the more traditional role of a bunch of songs following a central theme and idea, not just whatever crap he wrote in the past 2 years thrown on a CD. It feels more like an actual project, an actual piece of art, than just a jumble of Kanye songs. I think a lot of people are missing out on it because they think they 'get' it and give up on it, but there is more to it than people realise.
It does have bad bits though. Jay-Z's verse on Monster is awful, the skit at the end of Blame Game is a solid skip every time. But tracks like Lost in the World and Runaway make up for its flaws I feel. Hell, the verse on Devil in a New Dress is the best thing Rick Ross has ever done, by far. Probably the only good thing he's ever done.
Yeah it's not the greatest album of all time, but I think it's pretty damn good.
That album is like a movie. You got to listen to the entire thing in one sitting to really appreciate it. Perfect for those car rides home where you're struck in traffic.
