The philosopher Theodor Adorno BTFO'd jazz way back in the 40's and 50's.

It's like some kind of degenerated retard child of classical music, but with more honking noises and less structure.

Adorno was a Marxist hack

he disliked jazz just because it was commercially popular in Germany at the time, his criticism doesn't really translate to jazz in general and today he would love jazz because it's not commercially successful

fun story, him and shellac performed at a jazz festival here, in a place called Jazzhouse.

it's not like Im taking bait or anything, but FYI jazz evolved in a new genre since the 40s and 50s

He disliked it for several reasons. As a Marxist, he disliked it because he thought it held out a promise of "false rebellion;" a false musical consciousness that was actually based on lurid marketing.

As a musical form, he didn't like it because he thought it sounded stupid compared to classical compositions.

well if he's so smart then how come he's dead
>>
>>61786310
he was a hack whose criticism was based on politics and his own position in established academia and had little to do with any actual artistic critique

that people would take his opinions on jazz seriously in this century is mind-boggling
