>>61742387
How about a beginner's guide to Glenn Branca? These are all the works from him which are at least worth checking out.

My guess for you is that you're quite possibly genuinely a good person, but you often try way too hard to act different. Decent but still small possibility of being jaded.

Pretty spot on, but I'm more accepting then jaded though. I used to be a jaded fuck, but after awhile I stopped caring.

Also thanks for the Glenn Branca albums. I am a big fan of The Ascension. It is in my top 20, but I never listened to his whole discog though.

You wish you could grow a beard. You've just started college, your field of study is liberal arts or humanities related. You believe yourself to have vastly superior taste to the common masses who only listen to "radio friendly pop music", I mean, you have even listened to some jazz! You genuinely believe vinyl records have "better and more genuine" sound than digital.

You too consider yourself to have such great taste, much better and deeper than all those "plebs" around you. Your tastes are truly deep, you just can't understand how people around you don't "get" post-rock. It's too slow for them, they just want to get drunk and dance, fucking idiots. You're much more refined and deep than them. You watch anime, but only "real" anime that is philosophical and reflect your refined palate. You wish you suffered from a real psychological illness, but in lack of that you pretend to have "depressive episodes".

You think "hipster culture" has gone too far (because it's not trendy anymore), so now you're on the latest fad for "true music enthusiasts": poptimism. You don't REALLY like Deadmau5, but then again you've never really liked any music you listened to, and you're dead set to keep up any image that you believe will make people think you're "hip". You only started listened to Nujabes after he died, but you swear you've always been a die hard fan (for now, at least). You really wish you could just listen to whatever you want instead of working to keep up appearances.

>>61745711
You really believe modern music is mostly crap, and that music was better some odd 30-40 years ago. Any music that you like that is new, you only do so because you think it sounds like old music. You've only been on /mu/ for about half a year, but if anyone asks you will claim to have been here since "before the great indie vs. metal war", which you are glad was won by the indies. You live with your divorced father, despite thinking you're too old and mature to do so.

You don't really smoke, but you wish you did because you think it's cool. Unfortunately, you don't have any friends that could hook you up, and even if you did they wouldn't smoke with you. You think In a Silent Way is jazz music's undispited magnum opus, as it takes such great inspiration from better music, psychedelic rock. You really wish you could pull off leather pants, but you don't have the physique for it.

>>61745846
You're a white, 19-20 year old, middle-class dude who sometimes wish you were black because you believe you'd have more friends that way. You really want to talk to people about the (admittedly little) hip hop that you listen to, but no one around you cares. You only listen to "smart" hip hop, whatever that means. You've tried to host a party or two, but few people showed up and when they did they didn't like the music you played.

You work hard to be "trendy" and "in" on 4chan's /mu/, but you can't really let go of the music you listened to a year ago, which you truly love. You've tried to "get into" harsh noise, but never really liked it and will now secretly berate people who do listen to it, thinking "they're just pretending". You're either skinny or fat, definitely not fit.

>>61746006
You follow some kind of music magazine, blog, website, or similar, and hold everything they say to great value. You don't really listen to music, but mostly put it on in the background while doing other things. If anyone asks why you like something, the only things you can come up with are things that you've read in reviews. You really, really wish you had come up with a "great meme", and have tried forcing something on /mu/ to no avail.

You believe rock is the pinnacle of music, despite not having explored much outside of it (in fact, you'll try to justify that "you don't listen to rock" by coming with examples of sub-genres of rock that you believe do not fit the rock paradigm).

>>61746251
You used to listen almost exclusively to metal, but when you discovered Pitchfork you realised you could enjoy other music too. You will vehemently claim that there is good metal music for all ages, but secretly you think to yourself that you "grew out of" all the bad metal you listen to as your younger self.

Replace "metal" with "god awful EDM" and you're pretty much spot on
>>
>>61746266
You don't really care all that much about music, but you'll make damn sure everyone around you thinks you do. You follow most trends as best as you can, but unfortunately you're always a bit late to the party. You're really, really insecure about your tastes, and think that if you ironically call it "bad" you'll have some sort of defense against any critique. You only listened to We Insist! because you saw someone "respectable" post it on /mu/.

>>61746270
You used to work really hard to listen to only "obscure" music, because you think it's super cool to be different from everyone else. It's also your best line of defense against any critique -- if they haven't heard it, they can't comment, right? If you can't go obscure, you go critically acclaimed so you can use that as defense. You started listening to 385 after 人間 was released, but if asked you claim to have been a fan since 脳みそあらおうand really want to see them live. You secretly like Midori more, but they're too popular now. You wear your taste as a badge, and take any comment on it as a comment on your own person. You're deeply offended when someone says you have shit taste.

When you found Pitchfork you were super happy to find a music review site that so much aligned with your tastes. Most of the music you listen to, you've found through Pitchfork reviews or recommendations from /mu/. You really wish you lived in Germany in the late 60s. Despite not playing any instrument (proficiently), you've always dreamed of being the front figure for a rock band. You once fell asleep while listening to Hospice.

>>61746379
>>61740662
Every time someone calls you a Scaruffi-drone you take personal offense. You secretly do read his website for new music, but you would never admit it. You once heard a Beach House song on the radio and was upset because they're "you're band". You really want to go to Iceland. You like knitwear, but it's too itchy to actually use.

This is correct, but everything afterwards is inaccurate. If anything I'm a Sculpture and not a musician.
And I don't cry, unless I'm watching a good episode of a Cartoon or Anime. Or playing a really emotionally driven Game. Which used to never happened. I think I got softer after listening to so much Post-Rock and Dan Barrett.

>Despite not playing any instrument (proficiently), you've always dreamed of being the front figure for a rock band You once fell asleep while listening to Hospice.
This is true, the other parts are not, i don't use pitchfork and part of the albums i listen to are actually suggested me from a friend, got here after he suggested me something to listen to

>>
>>61746428
You use the term "electronic music" because you're not comfortable with tags such as techno, house, trance, etc. as you have not listened to enough "electronic music" to discern them. You don't like spicy food, it gives you stomach cramps. You've always wanted an academic career, but your grades just aren't good enough.

>>61746457
You hadn't heard of Flying Lotus until you started listening to Captain Murphy. You claim to really like hip hop, but you've never read about or listened to the roots of the music. If someone asked you who Gil Scott-Heron is, you'd have to Google it.

You're very set in your ways and dislike change. When order is disrupted, you're the first to get confused and annoyed. You didn't like Death Grips at first, but when it got really good reviews you knew you had to listen to them. You think To Pimp a Butterfly is not just a musical, but also a poetic masterpiece. Despite never having lived through anything like what's presented in hip hop, you feel a strong sense of connection to the rappers and their stories.

>>61746671
You often download albums based on the album artwork, despite not knowing anything about the music beforehand. You couldn't actually name any piece by Reich other than Different Trains and 18 Musicians without using Google, but you sometimes put his music on in the background because you think it's easy to shut out while doing something else. You once went to a classical concert, but was bored less than 15 minutes in and wish you had stayed at home instead.

>>61746707
You're preparing to graduate high school in half a year. You never cared about music, but you stumbled here from /b/ because "everyone likes music". You think most people "can't handle as heavy music" as you like, and if they could they'd like the same things you do.
>>
>>61746827
You think jazz is "more patrician" than rock music, but you can't really get yourself to like it, despite your best intentions. You rarely, if ever, listen to anything that isn't popular music. You once downloaded an eBook on music theory, but never read it. You considered doing the same with a music history book, but changed your mind when you realised most of them deal mostly with art music, and not the kind of music you like. You really dislike the concept of "1001 albums you should hear before you die", but you've never even looked through the list of albums it suggests.

You've actually only listened to a greater handful of jazz albums, but you're sure that if you listen to free jazz people will think you're cool. You're not really that into it, but you don't dislike it either. In fact, most of the time you don't really listen to the music you put on. When you decide what to put on a chart like this, you always think to yourself that you must try to put something that isn't an artist's most popular work, despite only having listened to the album once or twice.

You once read that people who suffer from depression or bipolar disorder are more creative, so you believe that music that reflects these kind of mood disorders must be inherently better and more genuine. You think that happy music is just for dancing, and you don't like dancing. Or well, you think that you wouldn't, but you don't really go to the club to try it out, it wouldn't fit with your self conceived personality. If music isn't slow, it's not good.

>>61747158
You've been on /mu/ for just about two years now, and consider yourself an oldfag. You feel nostalgic about the times you used to spend playing video games online, but your interest faded and you lost contact with the people you played with. You've never heard of Tzadik. The first time you heard Trans Europa Express, you were blown away, who would've thought the people who made "Das Model" could possibly make music like this? This set you on a course to discover more music that you would never have considered potentially great, but you stumbled over yourself and never got around to it. You've relied mostly on sites like RYM and last.fm to find music. Sometimes someone on /mu/ criticises your listening choices, but you dismiss it, thinking "I'm better than them, they probably haven't even heard half of the stuff I like".

Based off Jackson c frank & starsailor:
You genuinely enjoy and appreciate avant-garde & experimental music yet generally are more comfortable listening to softer, accessible stuff

If it means anything I'd invite all of you to a party

also I've never made one of these before so please be gentle
>>
>>61751196
You're not as smart as you think you are
>>
>>61751196
why would you include an album that nobody has ever listened to?
>>
>>61751313
Which one are you referring to?
>>
>>61751222
you enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by people you think you can trust. You'd love to live a life of leisure, being more of a socialite than a worker. If you could be famous you'd hesitate though. You'd rather wait and experience the world with a select few, so that you could share stories with the people close to you in your twilight years.

Oh such beautiful trees. What a lovely spring.
>>
>>61751334
The Final Cut. Nobody's ever heard it. it might not even exist.
>>
>>61751402
Hm, I thought you were referring to BC.

Anyway, TFC is pretty good. I need to be in the right mood to hear it, but when I'm in that mood it's like a musical orgasm.
>>
>>61740396
how do i make one of these

>>61751222
I am sure I would invite you to a party, too. My guess: I feel like you have two sides, one that is the party personality that gets along with every, is social, and knows how to have a good time. Another side that's a lot more emotional that probably only your closest friends and family members know of.
>>
>>61750817
Honestly never even thought of that

I guess I do

What the fuck is the purpose of the thread?

Fucking correlation doesn't equal causation you fucks.
>>
>>61752833
we're not discussing causation. only guessing correlation
>>
>>61752833
That's if you make a surface level observation. My guesses and others have been confirmed by those guessed as accurate so we are doing something right, no?
>>
>>61740396

you mostly follow a daily pattern. and you're mostly happy with it. But sometimes you do things on a rare whim and it brings you great joy. when doing these things you think there's much more to your like than is available. These moments are what makes you alive.
