I think MJ will probably be the most widely mourned death because of the fact that he was only 50 and about to do a final tour, was so incredibly popular globally, and was a pop musician in a time that wasn't so fragmented in terms of musical listening.

I live in Memphis, and see the annual pilgrimages to Graceland for the anniversary of Elvis's death. He died before most of us were born, so we can't appreciate how big the reaction was. I don't think MJ even compares.
