I have a question. A friend of mine is str8 edge as fuck, tea-totaler. But he loves Lou. How do those of you out there like him get into songs like WL/WH which is about speedballing? Do you just look past those songs, or do you feel sorry for the artist?

Ah, I think I know what you're saying. I think Lou Reed does a good job at showing the downside of drug-use. The songs don't exactly tell a heroic story. The drug-usage in VU's songs usually dissolve into absolute degenerative chaos.
I don't like being whipped and gagged, but Venus in Furs is one of their best songs, one of the reasons being that it offers me a glimpse into a world I wouldn't know otherwise. Maybe your friend sees that when it comes to using.
