However, if you look at Drake and Kendrick, they are almost complete opposites regarding their music style. Drake goes for the huge hits, catchy tunes, simp anthems, etc. while Kendrick goes for the aggressive flow, lyrical, introspective songs.
This is where J. Cole comes in and unifies both of these popular sub genres of Hip Hop. J. Cole has his fair share of hits, catchy tunes, simp anthems like Power Trip, Work Out, No Role Modelz, etc. and also has his lyrical and introspective songs like Lost Ones, Runaway, 03 Adolescence, etc. Therefore, through J. Cole, a person who solely listens to just one type of music can (if he/she wants) cross boundaries and listen to another sub-genre.
