I have something like 50 vocaloid songs on my phone, without the videos. So yeah, I do like listening to the music for its own sake.
Would I like the whole vocaloid "thing" less without the visual aspect? Sure, but that means you'd be taking away the music videos, and the fan art, and the video games, etc. I would obviously prefer to have more content rather than less.
I can see how someone would argue that the characters make the music less "pure", but I'm not out to impress anyone with my patrician taste, I just like what I like and I don't take it too seriously.
