You there! Why aren't you creating music? There are only a few things stopping you from pirating a DAW. So what's stopping you?
>>
Complete and utter lack of motivation.
I work for piss all and feel too tired and miserable to work on anything productive.
Then on weekends I waste my time on 4chan.
>>
I wanna make grindcore, a DAW wouldn't help
>>
I'd rather write
>>
yeah i think most of us actually have jobs
>>
I already practiced guitar for 30 minutes and produced for a couple hours today.
>>
Which DAW should I pirate?
>>
>>61549082
openmpt
>>
because I have no talent for music
>>
>>61548840
I only like playing other people's music. Many people have told me this is a disease, how to cure me senpai?
>>
>>61548840
i dont know how to pirate
>>
>>61549199
It's pretty simple
>>
>>61549199
same, I can't just google 'pirate games/cars/software emporium' and wasn't piratebay BTFO'd years ago?
>>
>>61549199
>>61549281
>>>/t/
>>
>>61549281
They've been BTFO'd a few times but I'm pretty sure they're still around
>>
>>61549281
bruh
they aren't called "the world's most resilient torrent site for nothing"
>>
>>61549082
ignore this fucker>>61549120

you want Ableton Live. pick up a copy of Massive while you're at it
>>
>>61548947
this is exactly why you SHOULD be making music
>>
>>61548947
This, replace work with life.
>>
>>61549426
that's true, i've never heard them called "the world's most resilient torrent site for nothing" by anyone

>>61549445
why not just use audacity
>>
Is fruityloops shit tier? I don't see it recommended often.
>>
>>61549483
also i wasn't kidding

why doesn't anyone else use audacity

I know, man. I know.
>>
>>61549199
Reaper is free

>>61548840
fuck, I don't know. I have the basis of songs in my head and the stuff I put on soundcloud get good reviews but I get so unmotivated and frustrated to actually record them and edit them. then every night I always say that I'm going to do it tomorrow but it never happens. day in and day out, it's really fucking annoying. I'm not even working right now so I should take the opportunity to finish an album but I don't know what's stopping me.
>>
>>61549521
idk
I've tried FL, ProTools (which is actually mad decent for recording) and Reason, and I still use Logic for mastering.

I just hit on Ableton and stuck with it. I love it. It's so sandboxy.
>>
>>61549968
Also Operator and Analog are both fucking beastly synths
>>
>>61548840

http://vocaroo.com/i/s0FoyagAPGdz

but i do
>>
I can't do it. I spend 2 hours, get a good vibe going then I work on it till it sounds terrible then delete. Repeat that process.
>>
>>61550275
Also I just use iMpc Pro, Korg Mini, GarageBand, and Audio Bus on my iPad.
>>
>>61549968
>sandboxy
I'm gonna start using that in these discussions outside of /mu/, literally the best way to describe it. I can't use any other DAW because Live's sandboxy interface just feels so free. I totally understand that skill/talent/knowledge doesn't direct one skill level to one DAW and one skill level to another, but everything else feels like it wants to hold my hand and show me how to do what I want to do.
>>
>>61550275
thats why you save when its sounding good and come back to it in a clear state of mind
>>
>>61548840

I work for like 3 hours and hate when that I just spent all that time making something that sounds like utter shit
>>
>>61550403
This. Take this to heart. It's amazing how much more progress I started getting when I had multiple SEPARATE saves down the line, not just constantly overwriting the last version. Step away from the workstation when it feels bogged down, GIVE IT TIME, come back late and jump through a save or two until you feel the vibe again. Repeat.
>>
>>61549483
>>61549483
Is this the massive yer referring to?
http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/synths/massive/
>>
>>61548966
pirating it would be cheaper than anything
true chintziness
>>
>>61550626
you hit the wrong post but yes, that'd be the one. Massive is basically the "industry standard" as far as synths go
>>
>>61550464
this is great advice.
always version your projects. anytime I hit a milestone with my project or anytime I am preparing to make major changes to a section, I save a backup version in case it comes out smelling like shit. Has saved my ass many times
>>
>>61549613
>>61550452

Depending on how seriously you want to take writing music you just need to force yourself to sit down and do it. If it's a hobby, something you do for fun, then just put aside some time when you have it (even if you aren't working like you said). Say, "I'm going to do this for two hours in the morning ever day" and if nothing comes of those two hours then just stop and do it again the next day. If you want to do it seriously then treat it like a fucking job. Work out a routine and stick to it. Clock in at 9, finish at 5. You'd be surprised how easy it becomes to write music that you're happy with after a while, how easy it is to get your ideas down.
>>
>>61550394
I know... I love being able to just slam out automation in arrangement view and quickly bounce it to audio without having to do a full export. I have nothing against other DAWs, they all have their strengths, but I do a lot of glitch hoppy type stuff and the freeform nature of Live's arrangement view just really appeals to my particular ADD-ish creative style
my best friend was looking at some of my project files and literally told me my workflow was appalling lol
>>
>>61551181
I have a friend who does the same thing, he always rails on me for my workflow and arrangement. That being said, the most recent project I sent him to mix was an older one that was a complete fucking mess (in regards to like jumping between using utilities AND the channel level for volume automation).
>>
>>61551223
oh fuck man
utilities are sketch enough but like
NEVER automate the channel levels
that's the first thing my friend Bryant taught me about making EDM hahah
>>
>>61551223
I mostly catch flak because I seriously prefer working with MIDI and I will avoid bouncing to audio if at all possible hahah. I just got to the point where I'll bounce for a master, I used to just do all that shit in-house in Ableton and master over MIDI tracks
made my homie furious
>>
>>61549294
>centuries worth of porn
nigga what am I supposed to do with this
>>
>>61548840
I don't know anything about music. I can't even sing :(
>>
>>61549445
massive is absolute shit
>>
>>61549521
i would use audacity if it had better monitoring/metering support. also moving waveforms around is a pain in the ass
REAPER is perfect for me
>>
>>61552277
massive is one of the best synths there is.
>>
But i want to do analog, but i dont have the money for analog
>>
Honestly, I need someone else who also wants to do music. If it's just me on my own, the motivation isn't enough. Who am I going to bounce my lyrics off of? Fuck it. Anyone in the 201 area? I want to make "obscure rap" like afro-sama, Xavier Wulf, kidd buu, and bones.
>>
Im taking a break cause my ears need a rest.
>>
>>61552511
>>61552511
Hell, I even thought of punk bands but I don't know how to play any instruments.
>>
Getting recording equipment for drums is kinda expensive and I don't play any other instrument
>>
>>61548840

But i do

>>61548966

Pirate a DAW
Learn to growl
Be/Find a guitarist
Pirate addictive drums
Learn to program drums - make someone program drums for you
Done.

>>61549498
It has a bad reputation because it is supposed to have shit tier interface and because using to make trash is really easy with it but i never got Ableton's interface t b h.
My experience with FL is that it's a great DAW if you don't want to record real instruments / vocals. You can record in it, there just are better choices ( ProTools notably but also Ableton )
>>
>>61552740

ezdrummer 2 is pretty good mate
>>
>>61552740

From my own experience, drummers program drums far more than other people
>>
I prefer filming
>>
Can I get shit if I sell music made on a pirated DAW?
>>
I'm the antithesis of creativity
>>
>>61553619
Yes.
>>
>>61549139
start actually attempting to write something until you find you like it. it'll take a while but when you create something you truly enjoy it's a really nice feeling
>>
>>61548966
listen to some Agoraphobic Nosebleed, if you havent already. awesome grindcore band and they program the drums in every record. also Anaal Nathrakh is just one guy in the studio albums, not sure but think he program drums too.
>>
Recently picked up a guitar and in the process of learning it so I can make some music
>>
>>61553684
No
>>
>>61553856
Well, you CAN get shit. It's possible and it happens all the time.
It's not guaranteed though.
>>
Trying to learn how to do Black Metal vocals and then gonna work on finding a band from there. Any tips or ways to learn would be much appreciated.
>>
>>61553896
>black metal vocals
>finding a band
You're fucked anon, solo projects are the way to go now
>>
can anyone recommend a midi controller. thinking about just getting a Akai Professional MPK Mini Mk2 from guitar center here in town. all i need is something to enter inputs
>>
>>61553874
How would anybody know that you have pirated DAW?
>>
>>61553874
>it happens all the time.
source ?
>>
Nigga I just woke up.
>>
>>61548840
havent had my own computer in about 2 years..... life is fuckin hard
>>
>>61553896

If only i knew
>>
>>61548840
Because I can't associate sitting by my computer with creating music. I am learning guitar instead.
Takes way too much time to fuck around in the program to be able to make something.
Can't really concentrate enough to learn a DAW because I only use my computer to fuck around, listen to music, play games, watch movies and browse the internet like a normal human.
>>
>don't know how to make the things I want
>no musical knowledge besides listening
>have no idea what I would make

;_;
