What does /mu/ think of Lou Reed?
Talentless hack

He's an asshole who no one liked. Not even the Velvet Underground. He's got a good quote about rock n roll though.
I didnt really like Transformer but his VU stuff is great.

heh
Really influential artist, objectively.
The ambivalent way I feel about Lou Reed... it's like he didn't quite fill out the way he should have over the years. Like, lyrically, he started out ahead of the game, still had some refinement to go, but he stayed at about the same level for many years and it resulted in a lot of albums like Transformer that were "just OK." And musically, it seemed like he always had an increasing desire to compose accessible songs, but he always kept his distance in such a way that he only rarely hit the mark.

More or less says how I feel. I don't even really care for the last two VU albums, and the majority of his solo work follows that same path
VU=win
In a few hundred years Metal Machine Music will be regarded as one of the 20th centuries best offerings

two*
and when i say 'care for' i mean they're brilliant, but i can't get into anything post-wlwh

I like him. As far as VU solo careers go, I prefer Cale's. VU is arguably the best rock band of all time, so there's that. Never got the meme of him being a hack...
