I am a musician and I do make music. I like to make rock music of many different kinds and am thinking about forming a metal band with my good buddy. My college band broke up when my drummer moved back home so I have to start from scratch.

Being pretentious about music when you don't even know how to play, compose or perform it is fucking retarded.

>>61518437
Yes anon. I've played guitar and sang for 10 years, I've been in several bands, played in front of several thousand people in total and have been paid for it several times.

Thanks for the ideas senpaitachi, I'll send you a few bucks when I'm famous

Mars volta and Can type prog, with post-rock, shoegaze, and early post-hardcore sounds mixed with some pedals nigga

Really abrasive trap like Five Star Hotel with lyrics that are almost swallowed by the noise so I can write whatever I want provided it has a good melody
>>
>>61518698
The thing is that if you have a band, it can't work out exactly like you want it to especially if you have a very specific vision. A band of 4 or 5 dudes needs to meet a compromise on what type of music to make and it's often not exactly how you imagined it turning out.
>>
There's too much electronic in rock music these days, I'd go back to the basics and make music with just good old electric instruments.

There's something that electronic music takes away from guitar, drums, vocals and bass. I'd say mainly that it takes months to years to even begin to make something that sounds good with real instruments. You have to physically work the instrument and there is so much to dynamics and tone that comes with skill which has no analog in electronic music. Something as subtle as refined or unrefined picking style can change the whole sound.

There's also the part where playing it live is way harder because you actually have to play the instruments.

I undetstand, ive jammed with friends and a few locals around my town And i see the differences in our styles, so for the past few months ive been saving money and buying equipment myself to record and have total control of what i want.
The only problem is practicing and getting good enough at each other instrument
>>
>>61519002
Yeah and your average person making electronic music does not have a set-up like that. I can't believe how butthurt you guys get about someone asserting that physically playing an instrument is more difficult than working an electronic interface, much of which can just be playing automatically live with literally 0 effort by simply replaying something you had written in the past.
>>
>>61518899
Barebones acoustic music has it's own sound for sure, the appeal of electronic music is you can create exotic and other worldly sounds that you could never get with only acoustic instruments. Personally I'm way more interested in synthesis right now than guitars and drums, but that has it's place too and jamming with other people is still always going to be fun as hell
>>
>>61519034
I mean, don't you want to play live?
>>
>>61519073
I do both, and they're both different types of hard t b h. Electronic music on computers is more abstract and focused on tweaking/composing, playing in a band is more about technical dexterity and sometimes improvising, however you can take on electronic music in a similar way
>>
>>61519136
Sure, but just going up on stage and hitting play on a multiple instrument track that you pre-recorded while then tweaking what you want or maybe playing keyboard is just not an option with guitar, bass or drums.
>>
>>61518297
Underrated
>>
>>61519073
>Yeah and your average person making electronic music does not have a set-up like that.
a) the average person does not own collectors edition nickel plated les paul either
a) the average person with access to a smaller system still maintains the same degree of "physical playability"

>I can't believe how butthurt you guys get about someone asserting that physically playing an instrument is more difficult than working an electronic interface
neither is strictly more "difficult" than the other and no one besides you is butthurt here, friend

>working an electronic interface ... can just be playing automatically live with literally 0 effort by simply replaying something you had written in the past.
"unnecessary and unsolicited expenditure of effort equates to musical quality" haha ok
>>
>>61519106
I do, but i feel first i need to make something that will persuade people to be like "oh ok, i see where this guy is going." and them know i am band leader and in charge of the musical direction
>>
i kinda wanna experiment with sonic weaponry through music with extreme volume. like extremely loud hnw / onkyo.
or just a really heavy sludge / drone metal band.

You don't play the song exactly the same way each time you dumbass. Have you never heard of soloing, dynamic changes, different harmonies, speeding up or slowing down a song? Jesus christ man you obviously have never performed live with a band.

Sometimes, when I'm working around the house or something, I'll hear a noise that I think sounds cool or pretty or something. I'll do it again and record it, and then I'll mix up a bunch of those sounds and create something kinda shitty. But it's fun.

I don't know what you call it. Stupid?
>>
>>61519639
>hip-hop inspired drums (almost can-ish)
what the fuck does this mean?
I understand you use loops and samples for hip hop, but Jaki's drumming is minimalist and sometimes uses layers to make it sound he's doing more at once. There is no hip hop inspired drumming because hip hop beats are almost entirely just sampled or derivative

No wonder you people aren't musicians

lol even if you have programmed drums made in Generic DAW #87 it's still extremely derivative.
Unless we're talking something like D'Angelo, wherein he and Questlove record beats(real drums) from their other experiences in music

I guess I agree with this. You have to realize he's not making the claim that the artist isn't the one producing the art. It's obviously a skill to produce something, but the power of art lies in what it evokes and the significance of art lies in what's done to it by people
